I keep a logbook for the van and enter each day's travel distance and the cumulative mileage in km. on the opposite page I note any maintenance, repair items and evolving problems.

Good system patrol03, unfortunately I am not capable of that these days. Once upon a time I used to meticulously keep records but now I would like a "gadget" to do it for me. I know
Does anyone use a device to measure how far their van has traveled? Logistic companies have a gadget attached to their trailer wheels.
Aussie Paul.
Hi Paul,
Yes I do. We keep an" Outback trip log book" put out by Hema Maps. Does not count the Km around the towns that we unhitch in. But it gives us a rough idea.
I Know, I Know its not what your after. However its as close as we can count upon.
I use a written log. However I generally update it after the fact using google maps. That is near enough for me when it comes to servicing / updates etc. which I also log in same table.
I also just throw all receipts / manuals relating to the van or tug in a shoe box and search and log when necessary.

+1 Use an Excel spreadsheet using distances from Google maps
Fresh van. Count miles at end of each trip. count up trips.
That'd be near enuff fo me. But after a few yrs or so.
I had better things to do.
Who. Really. is bothered??.
It's more important to give the rolling gear a good service once a yr.
EVERY Year.
Some yrs it'll be 10k other 50k others 25k?.
aussie-paul, you haven't said why you want to have this?, if it's for servicing, then the distance does not matter that much, as all the items on your van are being subject to the weight of the van, or the damaging effect of the sun, unless of course you have it housed in a shed. Remember plane servicing on hours or 12 months which ever was sooner.
