Might have to connect another load to trigger the inverter into providing an output. They some times need a reasonable load to start up.
Alternatively, if it is a Modified Square Wave inverter, electric motors do not like them, as a general statement. Make sure the fan is set to highest speed and try again.
Also good to plug in something like a desk lamp to check is the inverter is putting out.

I Have a cheap 150 or 300w? Inverter. (for yonk's).
It runs the std 12\15in Household fans in van from Solar\2 x 100a AGM's. With lights and Teev\Box. Waterpump. Around 12\14 yrs now. Just the std $25 Woolies\Coles fans.
Skinny wiring maybe?.

My inverter (2000W) also will not run our fan so we only use fan in CPs. Must be the fan motor design I reckon. No one could tell me why it would not run this particular fan but electrician thought it was the cheap inverter design or the cheap fan motor design. (I'm a cheapskate). Apart from the fan, our inverter will run everything else.
