I am in the depths of despair as I work my way through a few van DC problems. In another thread discussing the Prostar float voltage.
I found that the 20A DC to DC charger not working!! So trying to remember when and where I got it as it should not have failed yet!! Finally remembered I bought it at Supercheap (not so cheap these days) and trying to work out when. Early this week I decided to bite the bullet and take it to Supercheap to see what if anything they could do. The item had been mounted under the bed so still looked like new. I explained to the lass what was going on and could they use my phone number to track when I bought it. She asked if I was a member and I said I was. Anyway she tracked it back to 1/8/2015!!! 15 months out of warranty. She spoke to the manager and they decided to replace it. She also said that it had a 12 months warranty and if anything did go wrong come back earlier.
NOW, that is customer service.
Second problem is the 40A 240v charger decided to chuck it in as well!! Still deciding what to do with that.
Third problem is Sphere TV would not turn on for Edwin to watch while I was working in the van!! I thought it was a led TV but it is a lcd drawing 5 amps. So, repair or buy a less power hungry one!!
It took me several attempts with almost continuous swearing get my old dilapidated body entwined with the wiring etc to replace the DC/DC charger, and yesterday I finally finished and tested it. Whacking 16 amps in with the Pajero idling.
I now have an, easy to see from my recliner, digital gauge that will show me voltage AND what is going into batteries from DC/DC and 240V chargers. From there I can also see the Prostar controller.
Next saga is finalising water tank selection and flow recording when the delivery guy (who seems to be on first name basis with Eril) turns up with the bits and pieces. Son Matt was getting our mail when we were away a few weeks ago and told Eril. "Mum, you have to get Dad off Ebay"
The biggest drama still to be addressed is the ball and overall weight situation. I have been making a list of all the additions I have made and there position to now work out how I am going to address this situation.
On the plus side I have tidied up a few niggling jobs around the van.
You are doing a great job Paul and knowing you as I do it's no easy task but you are getting there slowly. Well done.
It's also good to see people are starting to think about and do something about the weight of their vans etc. I see so many obviously over weight and not safe. As you know I went through the process of getting my aluminium tent and tow vehicle under weight during this year, successfully too. It would be good to carry water on board the AT but it would add 200kg and aint happening, I get around it though. Being a solo traveller helps I spose.
