This was on before I think ,but I can't find it, how many Km a day do you travel when on a trip ? We have to travel 1200 Km to Maleny in Qld. I was working on 300 Km's a day with an Aliner, is it to far ? Cheers
There is no fixed rule. Travel the distance you are comfortable achieving. This will vary with locale, road conditions and your purpose for being in the road. When I'm touring aimlessly I do lowish distances, when I'm nearer home they get longer. Plan your trip legs, food and fuel stops even if roughly and enjoy your travel more.
We normally take 2 days to go from Toowoomba to Townsville towing the Avan Cruiser which is about 1300km however the first time we did this trip we took 4 days as it was all new to us.
First stop will usually be after 4 hours, thereafter every 2 hours mainly to stay alert. We always carry a thermos with hot water and a picnic basket in the back of the Territory so we don't need to open the van. We're both in our 70's so it's critical to stay alert and aware.
300km a day is nothing really. IMO. I am an early headererofferer, like just before first light so if only doing 300km for the day I would be having moring tea for dinner, something like that anyway. I tend to do around 4-500km a day with ease really. I have been known when in stupid moods (No comment Woody or KFC) to do 1200km in a day but there was a tug problem and couldn't turn it off without problems starting it again. I did do many 10-15min stops though to stretch the legs etc.
So yeh, 300km in a day is more than doable easily. IMO.

We''re early risers so after our daily morning walk & breakfast we're on the road about 8am. We 're usually resettled by 12 noon so 300kms is our usual maximum.
We sometimes only move 50kms or so. We want to actually experience places not just drive through them. Imagine how many great places you've been through if you drive 600kms + per day.
You're not really seeing or EXPERIENCING any of Australia's great spots & you wouldn't have a clue what's there. You're basically burning fuel & rubber.

For me, everything changes due to different circumstances
It is not unusual for me to travel a minimum of 600 kilometres each day
I try to make it a rule (not set in stone), to stop periodically to have a bit of a walk around, while the boss is having a ciggy
Just pottering around my local area
I have been known to do about 100 kilometres, and then stay in that camp for a week or so, then another 100 kilometres to the next camp
I tend to drive within my own capabilities, and in a safe manner, in respect that I will never drive if I am not alert, and try to avoid driving after dark
When out of my home base area, I try to park up if there is bad weather, to avoid others losing control of their vehicle, and involving me, in their accident
Well I must be slow , the truckies love me . I came back from Bungendore, (Canberra) to Albury 4 weeks ago , 360Km, took me over 5 hrs. A few stops to let the dog out ,plus toilet. I will have to follow Dennis and some of you other guys to get me up to speed, or change up into top gear (7 ). Cheers
Distance travelled per day is a personal thing and it depends on many variables.
I personally have a previous career in transport so I am not much interested in driving 800 ks plus a day. I tend to head off somewhere between 8 and 9 am and I am happy to do my 300 to 400 ks per day. Usually during this distance we look for a cafe or roadhouse to grab a morning cup of coffee and a walk around. If we are parked and set up for the rest of the day by around 2 pm I am quite happy. I might add that my time travelling is generally at a speed that moves with the other traffic and I make every attempt so as not to hold up trucks or other road users if they need to pass. I use a UHF for communication. I do not travel late in the arvo or into the night....I really do not trust the Roos.. nor do I trust other drivers towards the end of each day or in the sunrise hour of the morning. Just a drivers thing but that is me..... I do the above why...? Because I am retired.

I am wondering if your question is regarding how far should (can?) one travel in one day when needing to get to a destination.
If so, I have a couple of rules I try not break -
only travel in the hours I would NORMALLY be awake - eg 8am and 10pm;
stop every two (or so) hours - eg morning smoko/lunch/arvo smoko/dinner;
refuel at a 'food stop' to minimise time 'off the road';
avoid fatty, 'fast food' take-aways;
take at least a 5 min walk away from the vehicle at each stop;
carry water in the vehicle and sip it often - ie small amounts often (if you wait until you are thirsty then you are taking too long between sips).
I rarely travel more than 300Km a day ... but when emergency or such like happens, I have been known to travel 3,100Km in four days = 750Km/day with the van.
Just remember to be aware of the signs of fatigue and then do NOT ignore them.

we only travel in daylight hrs and are usually on the road by 8am with stops around 10am then lunch at 1 then like to be settled for the night by 4pm or earlier if we are going into a caravan park. We have done as many as 1000k's and as few as 20. It just depends on our time frame and whats to see along the way. We avoid main highways and popular tourist places where possible and enjoy small country towns. Tend to do longer days over summer when the days are longer. We generally mosey along at 80 kph.

I am working on a time line, I got 5 days, (1400Km) then 2 days rest. Then return , and no pressure . The problem is that I have to book into a van park .My
itinary plan is about 300 Km and then into a c park . If I go past the 300, then I may have to go another 50-100 Km to another caravan park, ( pressure is on ) and hopefully I can get in. So I will stick with my 300Km , I hope it makes sense ,cheers

Sounds like a plan mate.
Morning travel is generally best and the comment re eating fatty foods is absolutely imperative as is exercise during the trip.
Sunset and sunrise driving can be dangerous and having to maintain a strict travelling schedule can be fraught with danger should plans change and schedules disrupted. Towing can be quite stressful if one is not used to it.
Arriving at the destination does not necessarily equate to 2 days rest. In your case only you can determine weather it is actually two days rest or just two days of not driving.
You know what your capabilities are and as you seem to be happy with the 300 odd klms a day then plan the trip and stick to it.
The attention to detail on the return trip is as important as the journey to your destination.
