SPARE TYRE PROBLEM WITH 100 series cruiser

Spare tyre mounted under car was in the car when I bought it.  The walls were worn through to the canvass by the rubbing on the mounting.

I replaced the tyre and have since done 20,000 k's.

Removed to rotate tyres and found same thing occurring on the new tyre although nowhere near as bad.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Kevin, my spare had been sitting there since 2005, with a piece of old tube rubber between tyre and mounting brackets. I also have old tube rubber wrapped around brackets. So two pieces of rubber between tyre and brackets. No rubbing effect but small indentation in tyre from pressure.

Try something similar. I assume the tyre was wound up tight with no movement.

Yes before I get shot down by some forumites, I changed this tyre two months ago because of age. $300 in the bin.

Thinking of mounting spare on the back and adding longer range fuel tank.

Put L/R tank on in '04 so tyre has always been on back and yes it has paid for
itself many times over as we do a lot of remote travelling.
