More water :) Camec tank swap 60 to 80L (video)

HI all,

today I tackled a water tank swap from 59 to 82L.

I stuck with the camec brand which was already there because whilst the 80 was longer, it is the same height and width which meant I could use the same mounting brackets already fitted to the van.

I'm guessing the 59 was original and it was a tight fit for the 82 going in requiring some slight modification to the routing of the filler pipe.

There's not much to this, save for finding the right threading for the fixtures. I seriously don't understand why they don't use the same threads on all ports.

Anyway, here is the video in case anyone is considering the same.

cheers Brett

Brett
thanks for going to the trouble of making this video it was informative and helpful

the only query I have is the brass tap, when I went to Innaminka I lost nearly all my water
because the plastic tap in my tank was broken by stones
It makes me wonder if the brass tap is stronger than the plastic tank would the tank be
damaged in the same situation.

this is not a criticism of your work just an abservation
Brian

thanks Brian.

all good. I love feedback.

re the video, I do enjoy making them and find it easier to share what I learn along the way.
I hope to keep them coming as I tackle other van related projects.
The amount of stuff I've been able to have a crack at myself after watching a youtube video constantly amazes me.
It CAN be a valuable resource sometimes.

I considered this myself after I fitted it.
I've effectively just shifted the weakest point to the tank which frankly would be a more costly replacement over a plastic tap.
I must admit, I liked the look of it.
At some stage I think some sort of guard will be in order.
A comment on the video suggested the same thing.
I'd like to think I can get away with some thin sheet metal of some description like what they already have covering the electrics underneath.
I guess the main culprits would be a stray stone ? or is there something else I need to consider in my pondering ?
I'm open to suggestions here if you have any ideas Brian.

cheers Brett

Bret, you said you have problems getting a plug for the water outlet on the old tank. Has someone BFIed the outlet. If the outlets have not been butchered then you need  Water, PVC Plug, BSP 1/2 Inch Male.  I have a brass one that I purchased through a country garage that had brass fittings.

I did have a tap in the outlet for tank emptying. It was trashed by flying gravel and I arrived at Targomindah without water. I now have the brass plug, I don't have to reach in much further to unscrew it for tank emptying.

Afternoon Peter,

yes, someone had well and truly butchered it.
It look liked they had buggered the outside thread and just stuck the nearest bolt that fitted into the hole.
Had I realized that bolt was so precious I would have taken more care of it and not lost it.
I had purchased a 1/2inch bsp plug believing that to be the correct size but alas it did not fit.

All is good though , the extra 20 liters wont go astray.

I might have to get onto that guard sooner rather than later then.
