Best way Tamworth to Greens Lake.

Hi all,

hope this is in the right place.

We are in Tamworth atm. Heading to Melbourne on Monday. Taking 3 weeks to get to Greens Lake.

Trying to get hubby to take the road less travelled.

Any suggest for a leisurely road trip greatly appreciated.

cheers

Kathy

PS, Hoping to Free Camp all the way

Option A is B56 (Oxley) until it becomes A39 (Newell) then A39 to Shepparton and turn right onto the A300 (Midland). Green's Lake (just short of Corop) is on the A300 and it is basically a boring trip.
Option B is via Werris Creek, Coolah, Wellington and join A39 at Parkes. It's all bitumen even though there are maps indicating it's dirt just south of Yeoval. It's a pretty drive and is a road less travelled between Werris Creek & Parkes.
Option C is turn right a Jerilderie and go via Conargo, Deniliquin, Echuca, Rochester to Corop (Green's Lake just past Corop heading east)

Done all roads in last 2 years. Some on a trike towing a small trailer, some with ute and van.

I use Wikicamps for free camps. Best money I've ever spent.

Thanks RustyD,

will discuss these options with the Other Half and our Friends.

They are going with us and we are both Towing 18'6 Vans.

Cheers

Kathy

A slight variation to Option C: Turn right at West Wyalong BEFORE you get to Jerilderie. Take the Mid Western Hwy to Hay. Good large free camp Sandy Point on the Murrumbidgee River (popular).

Turn left at Hay (south) Good free camps along the river (west of) at Wanganella. Don't miss the Long Paddock sculptures along the Cobb Hwy.

Travel through Deni to Mathoura, good free camp on the Edward River about 6 kms East of town. Ask for directions at large visitor info center.

Further south Echuca & Greens Lake. smilesmile

A real pity that the famous Conargo Pub burnt down (suspected arson).

We also recently did Gunnedah, Coolah, Wellington, Cowra, Young, Gundagi, Holbrook to Vic. Jingelic (between pub & Murray) has a great free camp. There are free camps basically from the start of the Murray to the end. Walwa and the NSW side of Towong are good.

Other freebies I've stayed at in the general area are the free camp behind the Grong Grong pub (on Newell), Hickey's Falls on the Newell south of Coonabarrabran, Gunning (Hume Hwy).

Yep, Jingelic, Towong NSW side & all the other camps along the Murray are rippers!
