I have had a good run with Cooper AT3's . 50,000 Kms and about 60% tread still left.

I would choose a highway tyre with a high load capacity. It will be quieter, wear better and most important, give better fuel consumption, something not considered by many buyers.

It would still perform well enough on gravel roads, but it won't have the macho look :(

Less likely to throw stones at your van, which can then bounce back at your car. There again, plenty of ATs look pretty much HT to me.

I run Michelin 265/70/18 LTX AT2 on my Y62 Patrol they are quiet, hold the road well and after those Dueller boots, turned a pig into a horse. I have always used Michelin on my vehicles including the caravan and have had a phenomenal run from them. I always purchase five at a time and rotate every 10k.The last two sets returned well over 100k. The tyres on the van (Chinese variety and over 5 yo)
have just been replaced with Michelin Agilis .They are commercial tyre and were on special at Jax prior to Christmas for $130 per corner. For the 18" you would pay around $360 ea.I couldn't recommend the LTX AT2 more highly.
( The stone hits on the front of my van have originated from vehicles passing from the opposite direction...we do about 20K/Yr)

I run Coopers on my Dmax, brother runs Coopers on his 100 series and Landcruiser Twin Cab, cousin runs Coopers on his Dmax. We are all grey nomads and tow vans of various sizes.

We have all averaged over 80,000ks on the Coopers, much better than most brands.

I am now on my second set of Pirelli Scorpion tyres last set achieved 61613 Klm which is good mileage for general driving and towing a 2700 kg van for just over 22000 klm
I find the Pirelli tyres quieter than both Bridgstone and Coopers they are also great in the wet.

My current set cost $205 each fitted and balanced and the best price I could get for a Cooper A/T was $295 which is an additional $360.00 for a set of 4.

I am sure there will be heaps of opinions on which are the best tyres and I have given the facts based on my usage on the Pajero. Good luck

Thanks all for your respective advice, I think based on what the majority of my drive/towing will be on highways I will look at a better highway tyre than my present one, seems the smarter way to go.
