Gas Hot Water

Well it had to happen, our Truma Gas/Electric Hot Water tank is leaking, on removal & engineers examination, there is multiple hole about to break thru the stainless steel (electrolysis) as well.  Ours is 9 years old & this is very good considering other people experiences.

Now we can replace with the same Truma, or look at alternatives ie. Camec or Girard Instant Gas Hot Water, or Suburban Gas/Electric Hot Water.

We mostly free camp or camp off power in parks as cheaper.  So dont use a lot on Electric.  Quite interested in the Instant Gas Hot Water as NO tank to leak biggrin Does anyone have any experience with these.  We had a Suburban 9yrs ago, it was noisier than the Truma, came on & off all the time, and used more Gas.  Not sure maybe they have changed, any comments or recommendations.  We have removed the Truma and have loads of space for whatever is chosen.

Welcome to the gang Lotus Wanderer, enjoyb here and out in the playground.

I had a 'Girrard' Instant Hot Water service and in the three years I put up with it, it didn't know what hot water was. I had the suppliers in Ferntree Gully Melbourne baffled as well and I did all sorts of things to try and get hot water. It was also vey noisy. I hated the bl..dy thing. Finally in September 2017 I bit the bullit and replaced it with a Suburban Hot water Service. Best money spent. I only turn it about 20 mins before I want hot water then turn off again. It is a little noisy when heating but really is not a problem.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

We had a Truma gas only HWS in the OKA for 12 years. During that time it was faultless.
I recently removed it (it is now for sale for $180) and replaced it with a Webasto diesel unit that also heats from the engine and also provides central heating.
Wonderful!!!!

Cheers,
Peter

hi guys.. now i'm getting worried..Mine is now10yrs old, and i'm holding my breath a bit..This is the 3rd one iv'e had in 3 vans, and none have kicked the bucket yet.. Been happy with Truma so far. Did any consider a repair or replace of tank,,they don't look too had to repair providing the bits are reasonable cost.. May even consider getting a tank as spare b/4 it fails.. Nothing else seems to cause any issues with them.. Did look at the instant ones but the feedback from members was a bit negative. ( Research pending)..
