A Bit Of A Surprise

I drove down to Muscat on the weekend to pick up my wife from the airport and I actually saw my first caravan after 7 months of being in the Gulf. It was an off road Jayco Adventurer which looked brand new as did the big Toyota Tundra that was pulling it. You would need to be completely self sufficient  here as there are no CPs or camping grounds but Oman would be a fantastic place to tour. You would definately need a decent generator as I doubt you could survive the summer without air con as it reaches 50deg with high humidy for months on end. The good thing is that the noise of a generator wouldn,t disturb any other campers - maybe the odd Bedouin family and their camels.

cheers

BB

You are probably right DD if you need to drag around a modern day caravan that has all the comforts of home behind you but these guys have been quite happily living a true nomadic lifestyle for thousands of years. I heard on the local news the other day that the Egyptian President was in the country to cement a trading relationship that aparently can be traced back to the time of the pharoahs 3500 years ago. Don,t get me wrong this is an amazing part of the world for tourists to visit but towing a van probably isnt the best way to do it that.s why I was a bit surprised when I saw one.

BB,
The wife and I used to camp a lot in the cooler months in a tent in Oman.
Favourite camping spots along coast between Quriat and Tiwi, near "Deep Hole".
Deep Hole used to be beautiful before concrete steps were put in. Wadi Tiwi quite beautiful but keep your valuables very secure.
Road to Umq absolutely amazing.
Enjoy Oman.
Roy.
