Years ago I used to drive a tipper powered with a GM 671.We found that a gallon of Kero in the full tank of diesel gave it a big boost and kept components fairly clean. Great engines those old GM's and did it cackle.Nothing like a 671 for a good sound out the exhaust.
G`day,
Wasn`t it an 8V71 ? Another great engine of that time was the 6V53 from memory .
Cheers,
Jontee

Hi Jontee........While there was indeed an 8V71,the 6V71 also was very popular in tippers. The first number obviously referred to the number of cylinders, but not many know that the second set of numbers,53,71,92 referred to the capacity of the cylinder, measured in cubic inches. Thus an 8V92 was 736 cubic inches,or VERY roughly 12 litres.Beautiful engines, with a sound of their own.....used to love watching the flames coming out the vertical pipes on a long, uphill, pull at night!

Yes Roots blowers are IDād by engine size . 671 /,871,etc . You can only add so much injector cleaner . It gets to a point your spending more on cleaner than actually fixing the issue . If itās been driven on short trips the last few months ? Chances are as said above itās chocked up with carbon - soot . Fuel filter or fuel supply can do it too as itās what control power & rpm of most diesels as they donāt have a butterfly like petrol engines . Some brands . You have to go through an exhaust clean program every 50k or so . If you donāt the ECU goes into limp mode with reduced power . It could have a sensor not reading correctly? Which also puts engine into limp
Mode which is supposed to protect engine or trans .. I put 2 stroke in mainly for old injector pump etc .. Plus at the time it was pretty cheap ..
