Started the long dreaded house sit. Trying to help some old friends by doing this sit. Six months in sunny victoria! Its not all gloom and doom though. A well stocked tool shed is just the thing to do maintenance and additions to my rig. I'm building a canopy or shed, adding extra fuel and water tank on the ute. The van will get some extra solar and general maintenance. So who said being stuck in vic wouldn't be fun while my mates are doing a big lap this winter?
Kebbin you been spying on me you dirty old bugger lol? I in no way shape or form stayed for 4 months! It was for 5 months! There are witnesses! Aus-kiwi ewe are funny! Hey Tony&Bev, rather be travelling now than doin house sit. It is handy though to do the work on my rig and help out a friend.
One day, one week or longer, everyone is different and travels their own way. I am happy to do a one night stand but equally happy to stay long periods in one place. MY CHOICE!
Enjoy the playground everyone.

Hey Doug, yep I lived there for years before I went farming so apart from old friends it is the same old. A house sit somewhere I haven't explored would have been fun I rekon. It's a toss up at the minute on shed or canopy. I've never welded aluminium so looking at costs V's me doing the work in steel and gettimg canvas made. Hope to have it all done by greens next year if I have enough money! Hope to catch ya soon mate.
Hi Stretch, sorry to hear your bored, but thought I might add my 2 cents worth.
I am house sitting on KI (Kangaroo Island SA) for the next nine months and must say I have not had a dull day since coming here. I have joined in the locals on their early morning walks, gone exploring to the many Bays and Inlets. Go old time dancing every Saturday night,(even though I cannot dance) Do social bowls Tuesday & Saturdays, bush hiking and fishing on weekends when I find the time.
Everyday I find more things new to become involved in. This coming Wednesday I have been invited by a local farmer to see how they preg test their Dorset ewes using an ultrasound technic. Coming from a farming community out near Bourke, I would not have liked to have preg tested our 12,000 sheep, it would have be shearing time by the time we finished testing, hey!! Soooooo.... certainly not a boring house sit here in Kangaroo Island! Gwynnie
I just applied for a 3 month sit on a web site for house sitting - up near Cairns on a nice bushy property, but loads of people applied and I missed out. Shame as it would have been a nice change and cheaper than caravan parks.
Had to mow the lawns today. Almost did me in. Not quite the serenity I enjoy anymore. A bit of tinkering in the shed fills in some time. Bring on summer!
can understand the lawn mowing. strop n i r housesitting for 6 weeks. Big yard, beautiful garden n a big hot house with orchids n bat plants. going out to town today to c whats here.
I'm house sitting ATM. I don't do lawns. I tell them that.
To me......it's only worth as much as you'd have to pay at the local caravan park (which is $16 a day here), so you don't get much free labour out of me for that kind of money.
I'm happy to help these people out (they're lovely people), with their animals to enable them to have a good holiday, but I'm not here to provide free labour. Some of the house sit adverts I've seen are outrageous with their requests lol. I wonder if they get many applicants?
Some of the businesses out there too! Had a bloke in central Australia trying to get me to caretake his campground in the busy season and he was telling me how he worked people like dogs. I said Oh, so it's a paid position? He said no....rent only.....which was from memory Eighteen bucks a day. What are these people on lol? He was confident he'd fill it too.
Hi to my fellow house sitting travellers, (Stretch Armstrong included)
Nothing boring here on Kangaroo Island. Still exploring the Island. I saw an April dawn, the Remarkable Rocks, some cute seals at Admirals Arch over the past few days. Went bushwalking on a 5km hike with the locals at Flinders Chase National Park. Beautiful! The fog came in at Kingscote, so managed to take some bonza photos while down at the jetty!!! 4 star views.. . Gwynnie

Hey matildatraveller, stop rubbing it in lol! Swap with you!
The rocket, Grubbygypsy. I said I would do the lawns, not one of my better ideas now I have to mow them. I thought I would be nice since they offered use of their workshop. Their dog is a pain too. Keeps pissing on Maxine and Goldies wheels. Suppose with eight to choose from it's doggy heaven. I'm just waiting now for it to work out how to reach the spare!
Thanks Tony Bev.
I will have some fun too, catching up with a few old friends. I'm still going to lock up the outdoor chairs just in case that dog gets any smart ideas about pushing one up to the van so it can reach the spare!
WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That photo is like rubbing salt into a wound. You lucky house sitter.
My house sit is at Kuttabul north of Mackay. Surrounded by canefields. BUT only 20odd kls to the beaches.
Minding 3 dogs is fun and I only have to water the plants. I actually feel guilty when I go out without the animals, but they are TOO BIG to get in the little car. HA Ha
Enjoy the country and hope to do some more farm/house/pet sitting.
