I have had that problem Burgo. Possibly still some air in the system. Connect a hose from your external tap into the water tank and let the water circulate to remove any air.

If it isn't air in the pipes, then it may be a) a leaky one way valve - this stops the pumped water going out thru the hose fitting. or b) we had a very small leak in our Hot Water Tank and as the pressure dropped then the pump would kick in. We used to notice a fine trickle out of the hot water system outlet, but thought it was caused by the water boiling - not a leak!

Water pump - guidance please

Hello, help will be appreciated.

I had to replace the one way pressure reduction valve for 'town water' inlet - go same specs exactly. Tanks have

We have a Shurflo which have worked fine up to now.The pump is located in the van on floor level. It will not draw water from the tanks which are below the floor (they are close to full of water).

The tube from the tanks is termed the 'vacuum' side of the pump. I have cleaned the filter (vacuum side) and put back on place.

The pump operates but will not draw water.

It seems as if I need to 'bleed' the line from tanks to pump to remove air and allow the pump to draw up the water. Alternatively how to connect hose / water to vacuum side to fillet with water (charge the line').

How do I 'bleed' the the line?  Have I missed something?  Have other had this problem?

Assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks Keith

Have another look at the filter bowl, is there a seal that's missing, or its not done up tight allowing air to come in.

Thanks for suggestion. Seal is in place. However, I will check the seal (maybe small smear of some appropriate lubricant). I will do this tomorrow mad report back!

This sounds a bit crude, but a couple of times when I've let the system drain completely, I've had to put a short hose on one of the taps and suck the water through the pump to prime it. Once it starts to pump it doesn't take long to get rid of all the air and everything works again.

Thanks for thoughts.
A bit more checking this morning.

The replacement 'pressure reduction valve' sold me by Reece Plumbers is either faulty or does not have a 'no return' flap/ stop. I showed Reece the valve and specifically mentioned that in needs to only allow flow 'one-way'.

The Reece plumbing valve allows water to flow in both directions. I have tried it in both directions. Either it is a 'dud' or it is not the same type.

So back to Reece tomorrow for a refund.

Then to order a replacement 'pressure reduction valve with a one-way stop'.

Any thoughts as to the best supplier and price for the valve. I am in Sydney and would prefer to pick up in the next few days.

My checking SHURflo 4008 pump site shows will prime up to 6 feet height so priming should not be a problem.

Thanks again folks.
