How many of old Fa#$s wake up cursing and yelping from muscle cramps !!??, if so any good remedies to pass on ??..Getting worse n worse for this old Fa#$t. Last night they struck without warning and spent best part of fifteen or so minutes crying for help from the better halfe who musta thought "Not again??" and stayed comfy under her blankets !!.
Into the Barroca , magnesium tabs , Zen and Kwan Loong rubs , not to miss out on the ice brick !! Jayzus , Joseph n Mary they are painfull when they strike !!!..
I have bought 500 grams of Magnesium Chloride Flakes Lab. Grade, and as directed, dissolve 50/50 with water (I do not put the whole 500gms in, only what is needed). I then put it into a small spray bottle and spray on as much of my body as is practical at the time, or just on my legs when walking or exercising after rubbing in a bit. It is referred to as Magnesium Oil, even though it is not Oil.
On the skin is the intradermal method and is much more effective, and cheaper than tablets.
Lack of Magnesium in the body has many other adverse effects as well by not assisting other minerals proper function.
From the first time I began using this method, I had the best sleep and felt so much more relaxed.
Better and cheaper to buy from a chemical supplier than commercially advertised brands.

Apart from magnesium tablets/powder, which people I know with the problem consider them to be mainly ineffective, it is considered helpful to maintain/increase your water intake throughout the day and also to increase the amount of salt you put into your body - through food or even salt tablets.

Amen to drinking more water.....and that DOESNT mean amber water with a froth on top. I suffer this from time to time....but one of the real memories was a cramp that hit my upper right leg ( the braking one !! ) while scooting up the freeway towards Newcastle at 115 kmh on my Honda Goldwing one time. Good thing there wasn't much traffic at the time....coz I used both lanes as well as the breakdown lane to stop. Almost forgot to put the sidestand down as I was in that much of a hurry to get off and stretch hey. If anyone who has had a Wing knows...they can get a bit warm to ride in some summer days....and this was one of them.....but I had 2 one litre bottles in the topbox....but just hadn't drank enuff.

It could also be poor circulation and it is reported that cholesterol drugs can cause leg pain. What ever is causing the cramps/pain it's time to see the Doctor as we are not remotely qualified. I know someone who was having cramps at first and then leg pain almost constantly and 8 months later diagnosed with heart failure.
Much water is also a good remedy against kidney stones. Very, very painful. But make sure if its bottled its not overloaded with too many mineral salts

I used to find that I could stop cramps by having a calcium tablet with a glass of milk. In recent years I have been taking a Calcium/Vit D tablet and a Krill capsule each day for several years now but still get the occasional cramp.
After listening to a doctor speaking on the radio, I bought some Nature's Way Magnesium + Turmeric and take one each night. I've been taking this product for about 3 weeks now and haven't had a single cramp. I'm still taking the other pills and they are all large and tricky to swallow. The turmeric is really smelly so I suggest holding your breath when you take it.
I have sciatic nerve damage and get left leg muscle pain.
I use 2 teaspoons twice a day of apple cider vinger with mother .
It's the most fowl tasting acid. I use a shot glass topped up with water and then a couple of shots of milk.
Steve - try taking apple cider vinegar in some warm-hot (not boiling) water with a teaspoon of unprocessed honey - much more palatable than drinking it neat and less likely to cause acidic burn to your oesophagus or stomach. The natural honey has benefits too.

I take a Blackmore's Bio-Magnesium tablet each morning but occasionally get a cramp in the night-time. I get up and take one Quinine and it goes in about 10 minutes. Only happens about once a fortnight/month. Ask your doctor about them. Some people don't handle them too well - get nauseous.
I live with mussel cramps in my left leg to the point that my left lower calf is in a constant state of cramp varying from mild to intense, with intense cramps lasting sometimes for days on end, longest was 7 days without relief.
Recently, I found that you can now get Apple Cider Vinegar in capsule form. I've been taking 2 of these daily (morning & night) for about 8 months and found that I'm getting less of the intense cramps but still get the constant mild cramps. Quinine based tablets can relieve the cramps somewhat but the dosage needed could leed to addiction, so I can only take them sparingly.
The cause is from being born with severe club feet and enduring countless operations to correct them, I now have tendon damage and the surrounding mussels are trying to compensate and do the work of the tendons... hence the cramps.

Don't pay through the nose for bottled water! It is overpriced tap water!
