G'day,

We have decided that it's time to consider taking off and chasing whatever is over the horizon.

I'm on sick leave at the moment after having a quintuple by-pass earlier this year and am going back to work mid July after a short holiday in Bali.  Hev's studying full time, and isn't quite ready to go as yet.

We have bought our 4 x 4 and it will be delivered in August and now we're looking at off-road caravans.  That's a far more difficult decision than the 4 x 4! Looking at Kokoda, New Age, Canterbury, J & R Caravans etc.  Sigh...

Anyway, pleased to have found the board and looking forward to great communications

Welcome to the gang reikioz, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I had the same surgury 8 years ago and was told things might need a service within 10 years, so getting close cry Not looking forward to the opening up again if needed.

I agree it is not easy picking a CV so just do your research and make sure all the weights work in with the tug and your plans. Heaps of chat on this great forum as we speak about weights etc as getting very important now than before. It was important befor as well but not many took much notice, they are now though.

Yes, on the heart side, I'd had stents and a heart attack 10 years ago, and then the arteries had started to block again, so in I had to go. You know what it's like, so I wish you the best of British and everyone elses' luck and have it not happen.

On the CV side, just starting to get my head around weights, measures, GVM, and how much does the dog weigh and will it matter?

G'day Reikioz and welcome to the forum from us as well.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit. Picking a van is always fun, although being such a personal item I refrain from advising.

This forum is inspirational as well as informative. Just on the heart surgery side of things, my Dad had a quadruple bypass aged 69. He will be 93 in November, had a pacemaker fitted two years ago and came back two weeks ago from a 10 day holiday in Bali! He now says he'll stick to holidaying in Oz as the insurance for overseas travel at his age cost more than the holiday!

Enjoy choosing your caravan amidst the confusion!

Yep, I'm a bit younger than yer dad (at the time of surgery) and with a bit of luck an no foreseeable planning I'll have a similar innings to him.  As I can still  afford the insurance, I'm going to Bali in a few weeks for a bit of a break and then back to work.. sigh.  Then my new car comes in August and by then I'll have sorted out a van.... hopefully

And then ... well we'll see and I'll let all know, when I do.

Hi Frank and Heather,
One thing I learned a long time ago was to check maximum allowable gcm for your tug with the manufacturer. Should be online and as an example, the 100 series LandCruiser is 6680kg maximum unless you get an upgrade. Helps with axle loading, etc - from someone who used to work for DTMR a lifetime ago!

Yes, just coming to terms with weights and measures. Getting a Sahara, which has a reasonable amount of pulling power but considering doing a GVM upgrade.
