CB Radio channel for G-Nomads

Well, got my vehicle and am heading to Sydney from Brisbane to look at and most likely get my future camper trailer. Then back North again.

Is there a channel that the Nomads use in particular. It is a 40 channel.

And what isn the fastest route to the Central Coast where I will be stopping first?

Thanks

Vern

Channel 18 is the meant to be for RV use homealone, in reality very few caravaners or motor homers bother to use it or respond.

Channel 29 is the Truckies channel on the A1 (thanks KFT) listen in to it you will be alerted to whats going on in the area.

We use ch 18 when travelling with others but still scan 40 for road info and oversize loads. On the A1 Pacific hwy ch 29 is the "road" channel that truckies use.

Thanks KFT, I stand corrected, I thought Ch 40 was the Truckies channel Aust wide, will edit my post.

CH 40 is the Oz wide channel. The big problem is that there is so much ducting between the New England and Pacific Highways that travellers on one of those highways har travellers on the other. That caused so much confusion amongst truckies that they decided to use CH 29 just on the Pacific Hwy to avoid the confusion.

Rocky's link suggests they also use CH on the Bruce Hwy in Qld. I am not sure of that. I have usually monitored CH 40 on the Bruce and there is plenty of activity, enough to stay there and not try 29.

Gday...

Sorry about that ... the PDF I posted was for the 40 channel units. (my bad cry)

This is the spread for the 80 channel units - http://uhfcb.com.au/80-Channel-UHF-Information.php

shows 29 for Pacific and Bruce Hwys

This site also has info - http://www.withoutahitch.com.au/travel/uhf-cb-radio-communications-which-channels-australia/

and also shows Ch 29: Road safety channel Pacific Hwy, Pacific Mwy (NSW & QLD).

This site as well - http://radioindustries.com.au/uhf-frequencies.html

showing CH  29   477.1250  Simplex     Pacific Hwy (NSW) & Bruce Hwy (Qld) Road Channel

Then there is this site - http://www.australiasomuchtosee.com/uhfchannels.htm

which shows CH  29   477.1250    Simplex     Pacific Hwy NSW & Qld, Sydney - Brisbane

You are right Peter, I too thought CH 29 was for northern Pacific Hwy - Sydney to Brisbane ... interesting what is the real answer.

Where's the truckies using CH 29 when ya need em.

Cheers - John

I think what is happening in the case of channel 29 and 40 is that a lot running out of sydney and going further north then brisbane just dont bother changing back to ch40 so you get both channels being used from brisbane north. i scan both channels on the run north from brisbane and both channels get a lot of use.

The Pacific Highway continues from NSW over the boarder into QLD to just above the Brisbane Airport area. 29 is still uased through that area to save confusion but goes back to 40 when you start the Bruce Highway. I monitor both anyway but use 40 along the Bruce if needed to call a truck. As for 18, I too have not spoken to many happy campers on it but still monitor it.

Gidday Vernon (homealone),
If you already have a UHF radio installed, it may be capable of a "triple watch".
When I travel with friends in convoy, we communicate using ch 18.
My radio is set to scan 3 channels when not chatting on one of them; ch 18, 29 and 40 but if I get sick of bad language on ch 40 around city, I set radio to ch 18 (if travelling in convoy) or turn it off..
On the highway or country roads, when I see a big truck coming up behind me, I call him on ch 40 to assist him getting past me if necessary.
Cheers,
Roy.

 This guy has it sorted!

Caravan convoys use 18 for chatting, "Oh, look at this ..." or "where do we stop for lunch?" type stuff.

Truckies (and ALL wide loads) on the Pacific Highway will use 29. The rest of Aus use 40 for this activity. IF you are going anywhere near mine sites, they'll have their own channel that's advised around their sites.

Roadworks of a major kind will also advise their dedicated channel. They cannot stop you using these channels, but you'll not get much other helpful stuff there.

In any city, after school is finished for the day, you'll find all sorts of juvenile idiots pretending they are "all grown up" and swearing (and trying to bait people into responding) - these times, I tend to switch off. I know all the words, have used them on appropriate occasions, but do not believe that these idiots are worth listening to OR responding to.
