Drone info please.

I have been researching drones and am asking advice from members who may be experienced. I do not quite understand how you point camera at area to be photographed!! no

Due to failing Diabetes related eyesight I reckon I need.

1. First person view

2. Altitude Hold

3. One Key Return Home.

4. Wondering about camera up and down

Hi Hans, I don't think I should try el cheapo to start with as I will probably get totally frustrated and give it away. Of course don't want to spend a fortune for something that is a hobby. The Spark probably fits my skills and budget. Is the Spark camera stabilised by a gimbal and to what extent are you able to orientate the camera?

Mate I find the best but not cheapest is the DJI range and love my Mavic Pro but for a little less money and flight time another popular option is the dji Spark. Both have return to home function by a press of the button or if the battery runs to low and auto hover and landing plus obstacle avoidance..Extra batteries will extend that though. They also have a care pack for extra which will cover loss, damage or replacement but some house insurances cover that too. I paid out for a factory refurbished unit and have no problems. If you search utube there are some amazing videos to give you an idea on the quality of the built in camera. I got mine from Kogan if it helps.

Aussie Paul, I think a good start would be an el cheapo for $50 ,you can get a pretty good quad to practise with.
The spark got a 2-axis mechanical gimbal and one digital stabilising gimbal .
You also need a smart phone or tablet ,from iphone 6 up will work , or android
I paid $ 860 for my spark [fly more} 3 batteries and micro sd it was a good buy I think.
Just to let you know , there are a lot of places where you can't fly ,all the nice places where you like to film are mostly banned , NPs .
Another quad is the Mavic Air ,it's got folding arms ,it packs up smaler then the spark and it will stay longer in the air.Cheers

Have a look at shoot it WA, dude uses magic pro and a phantom 4, expensive but still considered cheap by commercial standards. He has a face book site so you should be able to find it if you have FB.

I have a snapdone on the way. Has been a long wait but it has many good features and really waiting to test it out. I selected a good one as I have tried a few cheapies and all they do is put you off as they are very hard to fly if you have not had experience with RC planes etc. Remember when returning to you the controls are back to front so very easy to get lost and crash. The new drones detect the tilt of the phone and get their controls from that as well as mine has many programed features that you can select and the drone does the prescribed flight as well as you can control when you want and return to auto for final return or to do a action when at a selected position.
Depends on the quality you want in the final product to the price you pay. If you want to play then a cheap one may work but if you are after a good result then you need to invest to get that result. Even though no one will ever see my videos (same as my photos from my trips) I still seek excellence in what I do so I have selected this drone for its stability and camera features as well as for the length of flight and the many programmed and programmable flight plans.

Hi people, finally have the drones. The first one @ $25, has taught me I am not as good as I thought I was!!!biggrin It has no features to help me just skill required. It has been invaluable to be able to learn the basics.  https://youtu.be/FDJ3A4h7cLU

https://youtu.be/ptVTsChJzr8

NOW the less than $100 one. Smaller than we expected BUT can also train inside. Yesterday I thought I would have a go outside on the front grass. I set a camcorder up and I lifted off and it drifted with the slight breeze and didn't seem to respond enough, went out of sight as I chopped the throttle. I reckoned I knew where it was and went searching. Walking is not good for me and when I hadn't found it in a couple of minutes the language began to flow.hmm How could I be so stupid!!!biggrin Did another search and looked over neighbours fence and nothing!! Our son Matt has built a new house 2 doors down the rear of us and Eril's mother, so I called for help.

I decided to run the video and my memory of what happened was so far from factual!!!! It showed me it went over our fence, the driveway, and then the neighbours fence past their vehicles and was sitting there waiting for me. Next thing I see Matt flying his identical drone up the driveway, so we had some father son drone chatting time inside. It is so easy to fly with all the features promised and delivered. It is 30mm smaller than a Spark. Hit the take off button and it pops up and hovers at around 600mm allowing me to play around with it, more throttle and it goes higher and hovers again when I let throttle go.

Last night I got the camera and phone synced and took my first piece of video. And today will attempt further outside flight when Matt come to spot for me.biggrin

Guess who has gone through some exciting, frustrating, and crashing times. One prop still to be found inside.biggrin

Some success with drone outside. I had some extra footage of our laundry door, stuffed the editing and seem to have lost it. With the wind you have to keep the nose down to hover in the same place so the camera is pointing at the ground. I accidentally got house next door while drifting downwind.

Still to understand the return to home stuff and memorise confusethe button functions. Can't fly it by the screen yet. A nil wind attempt is next. Still in one piece so happy. biggrin

Son Matt bought one at the same time as me. Sent him this after this evenings debarclebiggrin.

"Hi Matt, the switch on the drone has fallen apart, I have to be careful with a pointy object to turn it on and off. I ended up on Brendan's(neighbour) garage roof, luckily within arms reach from the telescopic van ladder. It doesn't like much wind at all. At this time I just have the phone on the ground and use the "headless mode" which has it moving as if I was behind it. Really good for beginner RC users. The hand controller is too small for my hands and the weight of the phone makes it more difficult. Have put a couple of stickers on the controller while I am still trying to remember the important ones. Once I get better I should then be able to fly with the phone mounted and by looking at the phone screen.
Are you waiting to learn by my mistakes instead of your own."biggrinbiggrinbiggrin
