Blaze Aid, what's it all about.

G'day!

Someone named Keith posted me about the above volunteer group.

(I managed to lose the post)

However, if you are in reasonable health, you would be welcome to come along to a Blazed Aid camp and check it out.

You will need to have a camper van/caravan to sleep in. Other than that, you will be supplied with a high viz "jacket, gloves and safety glasses.

The meals are marvelous.

You will be covered by insurance when working, so it would be an advantage to equip yourself with safety boots, and the right clobber to work in rough country.

Can highly recommend Blazeaid.
Spent 5 months at the Pinery camp in 2015/6, 4 weeks at Bungendore and 2 months at Dunedoo in 2017, and 4 weeks at Terang this year.
Great bunch of people doing a great job for fire affected farmers in those areas.
You do not need experience, just be willing to get in and give it a go.

You will find it one of the highlights of you travels.
The enjoyment of mixing with like minded people and the pleasure of helping people in need is hard to explain, but talk to anyone who has been to Blazeaid and they will tell you the same story.
The web site is blazeaid.com.au/.
Best to bring good boots and long sleeve shirts, hat and gloves etc. Just remember that everything that you are supplied comes from small donations from every day people, as far as I know they still receive nothing from Government or large companies as they had been denied TAX exemption as they are unique, though now there are several groups such as the hay runs etc that should all be covered by tax exemptions and government help but our government does not help our farmers etc.

Donations to Blazeaid are now tax deductable.
Still do not get direct support from the Government, but that is how they like it.

I will tell you the same story too, having worked with Blazeaid. No better feeling.

Joe.

 If you search:-

Cassilis Bowling Club/blaze aid/Festival of the Fleeces Merriwa dated 11/7/2017 you should get a good understanding of a "blaze aid" camp that was the result of bush fires from January 2017 in the Upper Hunter Region of NSW. Check out the pics attached to the posts.

We will remember the experience with fond memories working with like minded people mostly caravanners/motor home folk who gave their time supporting communities in time of need.
