has anyone had any experience buying a new piece of vinyl for their roll out awning off eBay. they are so much cheaper than buying from a dealer. Are they difficult to fit? any advice on the size I'd need to order, the width between the two arms is 3.95m whilst the existing vinyl width is 3.45m. Thanks

when we approached an upholsterer about replacing our vinyl he suggested that due to the age of the awning (8yrs) he would recommend replacing the roller as well. He said he had replaced several in the past and within a year or two the roller spring had seized or broken.
So we took his advice and replaced the vinyl and roller but not the supporting arms. Local Jayco dealer (Bairnsdale) was cheaper than several dealers we contacted in Toowoomba and others in NSW - from memory it was 5.2 mts and cost $1300 fitted.

Homeless ordered a replacement awning sheet for the Hino but never got around to installing it, so when we bought it from him one of the first jobs was to reinstall the awning complete with new vinyl. We opened the parcel and the vinyl already had the plastic beading threaded through, so we slide the old bits out and fort for around 30 mins trying to get the new one in. As any techie will tell you, once all else has failed, read the instructions. Turned out there were 2 other size plastic beadings included in the packaging, slide the next size smaller in and it slide in the track easy as ... we must have loosened it before
Can I recommend rolling the old awning out to the full extent, lock the roller each end using tie wire around a self tapping screw in the drum end and around the arm to stop it rolling back up just when you don't want it to. Now cut the old awning along the beading and if it's hard to get on with, along the sail track as well. Pull the old lot out, and clean both the sail track and the roller bead track so the new lot will slide through easy.
Stretch the new vinyl out in the sun so it's soft and pliable, start at the sail track and roller track at the same time, pull a bit through each while your partner guides the new material into the track. It doesn't take long to do, once finished remove the ie wire and roll it up and back out a few times, pull it tight along the drum and fit the locking self tapping screw and the job is completed. If it takes much more than an hr you were stopping for too many drink breaks

I bought a new awning complete with the roller (because the fabric was damaged but also the latching mechanism in the roller was a bit sus).
I went through EBay but cannot remember what I paid. The contact was Bruce Eddie (0416736420). His price was very good at the time. Only problem was that I had a white awning with blue trimmings and he said the new one was white + blue. Well, the new one is basically dark blue all over and it is not good to sit under when there is full sun.
