About 45 yrs ago a mate and I loaded up the trailer and took off to Louth to do some professional roo shooting for the Bourke Abbs .We were just out of Ivanhoe and in those days it was all dirt roads I was pottering along one hand on the wheel and a can in the other when I looked in the rear view mirror and noticed a wheel heading into the scrub with no centre in it ! Now being the observant chap that I am and the fact that we are the only car in sight I sez to my mate that we are about to waste a good hour of time cause I am tipping that the fact that the trailer on the back has a huge list and and its making a massive dust cloud behind us ,perhaps that wheel going off into the sunset belong to us ! Bugger ! Cheers .

Many many, moons ago I was driving an HT Holden SW in the country, when a wheel passed me, up the road it went and through a ****ies fence. Then the car settled over. It had sheared the axle right at the hub.
12 years ago, I was travelling north about 5 km north of Waverley Creek on the Bruce Highway (on the Marlborough Stretch) and I felt a bit of a bump. I looked in my towing mirrors (I was towing a new van which we had purchased only five months before) and I saw a wheel and tyre leaping off into the scrub, where it promptly started a raging bushfire. I, of course, pulled over and saw that I had lost a wheel caused by a collapsed bearing. Had to call the local Rural Fire Brigade out to fight the fire, which was being fanned by a north easterly wind. I understand it burnt out about 10,000 acres before it was contained. A huge WHOOPS!
