Truma Aqua Plus vs Camec instant HWS

We have just ordered a Kedron Compact caravan and have the option of upgrading from the standard Camec instant HWS to the Truma Aqua Plus for an additional $1000. We would welcome the opinion of owners of these systems to determine if it is worthwhile opting for the more expensive system. Cheers

Hi,

We have had a standard Truma 14lt gas h/w in our campervan for 6 years & no trouble or maintenance to date.

I think theTruma aqua is  instant gas or 240v in the one unit & the standard Camec instant in standard form is 240v only & a gas version is available - have you checked what system camec is to be installed?  as a gas/240v  option might suit your needs better if you intend to sometimes  camp away from from 240v sites.

If the Camec is gas/240v then you could possibly put the $1000 towards a diesel heater.smile

We also have had an instant gas h/w sytem on our yacht for over 20 years & it has been problem/maintenance free - it has an adjustable thermostat setting & we choose a setting for showering that only requires turning on the h/w tap & not having to adjust with cold water & is a big + with water saving  - I don't know if the Truma aqua or Camec instant have an adjustable thermostat but would be worth checking.

I take it that you are content to be restricted to gas only operation. I would go for a dual fuel unit.

There is a comparison on heaters on this page. It may be of some assistance. From reading the brochure blurb on the individual item pages it appears that the Truma has some features that make for easier maintenance like automated water draining and a filter cartridge to reduce scale sediment. It does not say whether the "Electronic control delivers constant water temperatures up to 49 degrees" means that there is a remote control to vary the temperature (the comparison page seems to indicate it is fixed at 49 degrees.)

Thank you David and Peter for your quick reply.

Looking at the link in Peter's reply I believe the Camec would be gas only like the models shown at $969.95 while the Truma Aqua Plus which is gas only would be similar to the Truma AquaGo Comfort shown at 2,419.95.

There is a link to the Truma Aqua Plus at:
www.caravanrvcamping.com.au/truma-aquago-plus-kit-black

and a link to the Camec at:
www.caravansplus.com.au/camec-instant-gas-hot-water-heater-white-p-17409.html

They both have gas as the heating source with 12v control systems. From what I have read the Truma is a bit more hi-tech with perhaps better control of flow volume and temperature, but at $1000 more I could possibly better use the money elsewhere. I am also getting a diesel heater option. Cheers

Hi again,

Interesting from your references that the Camec unit has a selectable rating of 35-60 degrees & the Truma only 49 degrees.

Sorry for my previous brain fade as of course an on demand h/w system is gas only.

recent Truma troubles with the electric element - the repairer's comment was 'there is a good reason they are called trauma!" Just saying :) Mind you - got the second element under warranty as the first blew the power overload after only being used twice - faulty element apparently.
