Pulled over there for morning tea on one trip. Brrrr! Freezing & blowing a gale. Ran from the Tug to the van for a very welcome premade hot coffee & then quickly back to the tug & screwed up the heater. Will never go back in winter.
I should have known better, because many many years ago (half a century or so) we went up that way shooting rabbits to eat & roos for skins while camping out in the rough. We slept on the ground all rugged up & with a hip hole of course, under a heavy canvas tarp. In the morning the tarp would be frozen as stiff as a board with a thick coating of frost. Reach out for the almost empty scotch/rum bottle for a heart starter. Eventually got the courage to emerge rugged up in our full length Dry as a Bone or Army Great coat (or both) with a couple of pairs of football socks inside Bloucher Boots plus gloves & beanies/balaclavas, to stoke up a roaring fire and heat up the Rabbit stew / broth & open up another bottle of Bundy to help out the soup & coffee. We soon learnt to set up our gear in easy reach under the tarp. What a way to start the day. Got lots of quality Pretty Face skins for sale or home tanning/curing though.
Stopped there a couple of times in the last few years. There is a rest area near the CP. A****LE from the park came down and told me I couldn't stay there. I told him where to go. "Fatigue" so sod off.
He did call the cops on me. I showed the policeman my Dashcam showing my start driving time and he went on his way quite happily.
Next time I stayed at the same rest area and never saw him again.
Wouldn't stay at his CP if it was the last one in OZ.
Yes he's running a business but you cannot make people stay in your park if you don't want to.
Few years ago stayed at Guyra free camp. At 3am raised my hand to the camper trailer canvas- ice!!. We packed up and drove through town...minus 7 on our dashboard.
No more canvas for us.

Check on Wiki camps, this is a 24 Hr stop with a donation. The grub from the CP needs to pull his head in. He must be related to the grub in Murray Bridge who abuses people stopping at the showgrounds.
You should get the grandies to come up to your place, Kath - I guess it would still be chilly in the mornings but to them it would be like summer! I won't mention that here in the Kimberleys it's been sunny every day for weeks, temps in the high 20s to low 30s

Kath, Re Diesel heater,
After an afternoon tea stop, leave the heater on low so when you reach your overnight stop the van is warm and cosy. Plus the 20 minute warm up prior to getting out of bed in the morning.
You want to go to Ebor, just up the road. It snowed there while I was there afew years ago.....in February........Caught some nice trout at Styx creek , though.
