Diesel Heater Service.

Been reading and hearing a lot about people's diesel heaters and how good they are, but my question before I go ahead a get one is..... What sort of servicing do they require. Can you do it yourself or is there a specialist that you have to take them to??

Regards and hope you can help me please......

I think the heater below is a good one, has 2 methods of heating: Temperature and Heat Control . I understand with the Heat control ( Low Heat/Low Fan, Medium Heat /Medium Fan etc) when running on low heat for hours prior to switch off you need to run on high to burn off the carbon build up, if you don't sometime in the future the heater needs to be taken apart and cleaned/decoked.

We do not have that problem with our heater it cycles: the heat and fan speeds are variable (annoying) depending upon the control setting and van air temperature. The initial switch on gives high heat/Fan speed to bring the van up to the control setting so I think this burns carbon out of the unit. When the unit settles down and the control is set to minimize cycles ie lower/heat/fan, we could have some build up over time which will result in a clean some years in the future.

I would be wary of a larger unit than a 2 or 3Kw unit because to me running on a low setting with a Temperature/cycling heater it could cause carbon build up.

There are several YouTube videos on diesel heater servicing. I've watched a few but never had to do it yet!
