Victron BMV 700

just installed a VictRon BMV700 battery monitor in the van. At last I know whether or not my batteries are fully charged or not. Before all I had was a couple of green leds that really gave little info. The Victron shows actual voltage of batteries, how many amp hours are being drawn from the system, how many hours of remaining amp hours at current draw down rate and how many amp hours are coming into the batteries from the solar, mains charger, or from the dc dc tug charger.

All the info is available on my phone via an app and a Bluetooth dongle attached to the display screen in the van. I did an audit of each 12 appliance by turning them on and seeing instantly how many amps the item pulls on the screen of my phone.

i now feel confident my system is working well and there is no guess work about how many amp hours we have to play with on cloudy days.

whoopee!!!!

Hi Pete, they are a great device and fully programmable to suit what ever battery chemistry you might change to in the future. The new BMV712 actually has the Bluetooth ability built in, this can be a curse all of its own because it also opens up the ability to change settings via the phone. Had one person already ring me from outback some where on top of a hill so he could get reception to find out the original settings after "having a play" and forgetting to write down what the settings were before hand wink

Not too hard to install either eh, value for money they are very hard to beat

Thanks Terry, ihavnt mucked around with the settings yet. waiting for the system to maybe learn my system? Not sure about the way to get the best out of the system but know I am streets ahead of little green lights telling me SFA.

Currently the BMV-712 is on sale around $245 shipped free from
energyconnections.net.au/product/victron-shop/1121/0/80491/victron-bmv-712-smart-battery-monitor
I just bought one at $275 and was about to install when WiFi said I could look at upgrading to a van with toilet, so the search begins.

I installed a VictRon BMV702 a couple of years ago, well worth the money by showing what was going into and out of my batteries. It was the start of a few upgrades that will eventually end up with lithium batteries.
