Just signed a deal on a new mux4wd great deal was very happy wont be picking it up for a few weeks,Just found out today they have a dpf filter in the new one (just my luck )can cost up to $500 dollars to clean, any one here running a vehicle with one of these things fitted,I do my own servicing are they easy to get too....
The way one uses a vehicle with a DPF determines whether it will be completely unnoticeable or a potential problem.
To keep clean the DPF needs to be 're-generated' -
Passive Regeneration Passive regeneration takes place automatically, with no warning lights coming up on the dashboard. It mainly occurs on highways, when the vehicle speed and exhaust temperature is high. Depending on how the vehicle is used however, this may not be possible. Stop-start driving, or around town trips will not allow the exhaust to get up to temperature to carry out this regeneration.
So if you use the vehicle for predominantly highway work, particularly towing, it will quite probably not cause any concern.
Active Regeneration Once the ECU reads the soot loading has reached a certain limit (usually around 45%), it will instigate what is known as post combustion fuel injection. This procedure injects a small amount of fuel into the engine after the main combustion cycle, to increase the temperature in the exhaust and trigger the regeneration process. The ECU will usually flash the DPF light on the dashboard to alert the driver that the regeneration process is in progress. Depending on your vehicle, you will need to keep your vehicle over a certain speed and engine RPM until the light has stopped flashing. The procedure should be covered in your owners handbook, but a round guide is to keep the engine speed over 2,000RPM and the vehicle speed over 60km/h.
What can prevent normal regeneration taking place?
Frequent short journeys, such as stop-start city driving, that do not allow the engine to reach correct operating temperature
Using the wrong oil type DPF equipped vehicles require oil of a low Ash, low Sulphur grade, to prevent excess build-up occurring
An issue with another emissions control device, such as the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, or a problem with the inlet or fuel systems
Bloody pain in the neck. The truck was intended for around town use and had a small diesel tank. I had to sit three times revving the engine till the red light went off after the regeneration cycle completed.
Why the company bought a fleet of the things for around town use I have no idea. On the highway as Rockylizard said it gets to the temp needed to regenerate no problems.
Thanks for your reply Russell ,this will probably be my last car ,as its new and Iam old ,there supposed to be an excellent tow vehicle ,emission control is nessasary but it can have its problems, and sometimes your better off with an older model, anyway the deals done and Isuzu are top dog in the diesil world I hope ...
G'day Ron,
Last year the Isuzu salesman here in Albury told me that they have " a patented system" that minimizes any potential issues. Claimed to be about the best going around. Maybe double check with your guy that this is true.
Yeah Craig I dont think there will be any problems with it Isuzu would have there reputation at stake, and there the biggest makers of diesil engines in the world.
Hi Ron I have a new 2018 Dmax done 4k now they seem to regenerate about every 500Km with Hwy travel you don"t even know it is doing it so i wouldn't worry

Thanks Joffa your right on the mark, they are diesil specialists and its something they had to do to not fall into the the trap of reducing engine capacity ,to meet emission control ,cant wait to hook it up to the van,we wont have it for another ten days. It will probably be my last car tow vehicle ,and for the price there selling them at the moment, I dont think we can go wrong .
sounds like your happy with the car how does it tow.
Hi Ron Mine is the Dmax and we couldn't be more happy, tows with no problems at all plenty of power for what we are doing excellent fuel economy hope you are as happy with your purchase as we are with ours cheers Joffa
Hi Joffa glad to hear the Dmax is great tow vehicle they have a great payload but there both sisters never heard a bad report on these vehicles on either cant wait to pick it up thanks for your comments.....
