We have a an with 3 x 120Amp hour AGM batteries which are squeezed into metal boxes welded onto the underside of the chassis. The boxes are positioned in such a way that some service people decline to check the batteries as the boxes are too tight. Also, to pull the batteries out, each battery does not slide straight out. They have to be pivoted so that they clear the side of the van which protrudes down some 50mm. Ideally, it should be possible for the boxes to enable each battery to be pivoted so that it is easy to get access. I will try to upload some photos to clarify what I am saying. Also, the boxes are too small contributing to making the removal process difficult and requiring a strong person to do this at some expense. Is it possible to have the boxes modified by a sheet metal worker? Welding would be needed. Is it possible to buy better quality boxes which can be welded into place to replace the existing?

Skinsy, I think I undersand your dillema. I think it would better to have new boxes made to suit your your van and to your requirements. Buying better quality boxes, if available, may still require modification and modifying existing equipment is not always sucessful. A competent caravan repairer or metal fabrication shop should be able to help you.

Do you need the three batteries? Were there two fitted initially & someone added a third, making removal extra difficult?
With Gel, AGM batteries, the only checks that you need to do is ensure the terminal voltage is ok, there is no corrosion on the terminals & the tops are dry, relatively dust free.

A suggestion, if I was to have that problem I would consider fabrication of new boxes and either hinge the box to enable it to be lowered or attach it on a slide or roller. Should not be too difficult for an engineering workshop to manufacture for you if you do not possess the skills yourself. Cheers and good luck.
Are the motor and storage batteries together ? I have made a tray between chassis rails . The motor battery sits up there . No problems . In this case . Gave me more room for storage batteries. Which I have fitted slide out on . Extending the cable .
