I have been with Telstra for a long time , lots of problems ,but got over it , now with the new NBN it's getting ridicules . For more then 2 Month ,the Internet drops in and out . Now over a Month it is very bad ,about 7 o clock every evening it drops out ,I dont know when it comes back on again. During the day it drops out quiet a few times. I rung telstra today to get it fixed ,the old story ,pull out this ,switch off that ,the same all the time. But they mybe able to help , all I have to do is pay $15 bucks a Month and I will be insured for any probles like a virus , modem or any work done in the house , and so on. I could live with out the internet ( I think), but if that is not working ,then I have no phone. But wait there is more , my mobile is not working either ,last time I rung telstra they switched my home phone over to my mobile . After 2 days I told them that every thing was working and that they can take the diversion off. Because I don't use my mobile very often ,I only found out today because the lady was going to ring me to make a test to disconnect the net.
this is the second time I typed this letter , just as I was going to supmit the post the net went down , give me back my Broadband ,it was a lot better, cheers
A couple of things Hans, 1= get Telstra, at their cost, to check your wall connection, older houses use multi wire in, maybe a dozen. you only need Two. Dont accept that they want to charge $135 or so.
2= Make sure you have the newest modem, auto switches to 4g, so at least you have internet. Bad luck if you need a phone but.
We had that when they switched over or upgrading in our area . Settled down
Ok now . They are switching cable TV to satilite as well . I guess to spread bandwidth. ?
NBN runs and owns the network, Telstra is the retailer and that who you have to make the complaint to , But don't blame Tekstra for bad service because it out of there control it's own and run by NBN.
Funny ,My neighbour never had any problems , now he told me that he was still on broadband and that he gets disconnected . It will be interesting to see how it goes from now on ,cheers
We had all sorts of issues with the NBN cowboys with bad works and no-one caring. There are contractors working for contractors, working for contractors etc. who finally answer to the conglomeration called NBN. The management of NBN are rude and incompetent too. They are not in the Telco business and hence have no ownership. You have to deal with your supplier. In my case it's Telstra. Even when a NBN contractor broke my copper cable pulling thru the fibre, he would not fix it. Not his problem even though he broke the connection. Had to go thru Telstra who took 5 days to re-connect my copper. However I've been up and running with fibre to the house for 4 years now without a problem,.

Once again ( for the fifteenth time ) we have been off air, so to speak for over a week with no phone and no computer contact,
We lost all communication 8 days ago, but didn't do anything about it straight away, as I thought it was the very common drop out,
that was until after two days and still nothing, I then rang NBN through Telstra on a thursday morning and complained again about their lack of service, many apologies but they said it would be a week before a tech could visit our home, great I thought, remembering how many tech's had recently lost their jobs here in the West,
After a week the tech did turn up and found the fault in the NBN cable that had only been laid last year from our house out to a road-side pit, he told me it was water in the line and when he lifted the cable it just broke in his hands !!!
Now doesn't that say a lot for a " You beaut new super fast NBN service " for you, Give me back our old line any day, if the fax machine went kaput, we at least still had a phone.

We must be one of only a few happy NBN customers with our landline connection. Our old system was unreliable & kept dropping out all the time.
Since we've had the NBN for around a year it's worked like clockwork.
The only Telstra whinge we have is with our laptops wireless internet. It works great & they have just reduced prices of recharges but you cannot carry over the unused data when you recharge anymore.
We used to pay $90/10gig for 6 months, it's now $70/10gig for 6 months, NO carry over.

we were in the first pilot group to be hooked up to nbn in australia, the first routing of the airial cable was terrible, under eaves, down wall, down timber fence, along wall into office. It did give about 7 years trouble free operation though. With the pressure of a swinging cable it eventually pulled the barge board off my house that had happily been there since 1890 and the opposing barge board is still there. Anyway that snaped the cable.
About a week later new tech came to fix it, did a total new install of cable, ingressed the house inn a different area which halved the airial span to the pole and relocted the indoor unit,
100% better than the orinal
Apart from a couple of other short term outages of less than an hour, that's my story very happy cheers blaze

I'm hanging on to my non NBN broadband for grim death.
They keep telling me that my Telstra co-ax cable Broadband is soon to be disconnected & I tell then bull****e, not for 18mths from being declared NBN Ready. Not really true as the telco can legally choose to withdraw service any time within that 18mth period, but I don't mention that & they don't seem to know. LOL
My Telstra 115 kBps down 24/7 is utterly reliable but is about $10 a month dearer than an NBN based Telstra 50 kBps with a call package ( I get a special discount on Telstra packages), but I am used to my fast cable with a (free) speed boost.
I know a few of those NBN subcontractors of subcontractors of contractors & am aware of their non-qualifications/experience. I certainly don't want to go through the process of throwing myself onto their mercy. In fact when the time comes I'll do most/all of the premises physical stuff myself just like I did with the original co-ax installation.
It certainly deserves the name FRAUDBAND or perhaps Malcolm's Folly or Abbot's Apology for an NBN. We had a great chance & like most of our Politically driven initiatives ... we blew it big time.
Cupie 12 months ago I was like you. As one of the first areas in Australia to get the NBN we were warned by Telstra that we had to change over by October last year as the copper service was going to be disconected. Reluctantly we signed up and since then have been very happy with our NBN service - like DD we have never had a problem with it. With the old package we had an 8GB monthly allowance as we only did a bit of internet browsing and sent emails etc. now we have 200GB (3 times in any year if we run out they will give us another 200GB) . We weren't planning on keeping our landline due to the number of unsolicited phone calls but as they threw it in we decided we would use the answering machine service to filter any unwanted calls. The best part is that we are now paying $20 a month less for a service that lets us run Netflix, Stingray, Foxtel Go etc. and can download all sorts of things which we would never have been able to with our previous 8GB. If we want we can run up to 6 devices by Wifi anywhere in the house and with the 4G coverage the speed is at least as good and probably a lot better than we had before. We don't have a speed boost but it's an option to pay extra for it but you will only get the benefit if your network is capable of running at that speed. I'm not sure if like many of us you have fibre to the node then copper to the house how much you would actually benefit from it.

My current Telstra Fixed Broad Band plan has so called 'unlimited' data but we only use around 20 to 30 gig/mth unless our Grandies are over for a visit & then it goes up to 50 or so. Only free to air TV for us.
Our NBN network will be HFC which is fibre to a 'node' and it then uses the existing Co-axial cable (was Telstra's pay TV cable) to the premises. So this is one step up from the construction that uses the old copper from the node but still nowhere near as good as fibre to the premises, which we should all have, at least in the Metro areas.
I'll just have to bite the bullet soon & change over. I'll reactivate some contacts in the NBN contractor supervision area first though .. if I can find any who haven't got pissed off & left.
