Table size

My Jayco Starcraft outback was purchased 2nd hand. It has an oversized table. It does not fit into the drop down slot to make a bed. I would like to have the correct size. What are my options?

Are you talking about the actual table top or the leg?

Hi Rudie,
Do you know if it is the original table? If there is a caravan sales yard nearby, you could check out similar caravans (you can't be charged for a look).
Otherwise, are you handy with tools? Have a cabinet/kitchen maker's business nearby?

Original tables often while they look like being made of wood/ply are only two thin sheets of ply, separated by some white foam.

One option if you arent able to cut the table down yourself would be to go to a cabinet maker and get it trimmed to the correct size. They could retrim the edges and make a tidy job of it .

Thanks guys. Looks like a trip to local cabinet maker is inevitable. I can cut it down myself, but the edging is the issue for me.

Easy job just to measure the size of the piece required for the bed in the drop down situation.

Get a bit of 5ply marine board from the Big Green Shed.  Pick out a nice piece and sand finely.

If you have a router, run a rounded edge round the top.  If not carefully file/sand a bevil around the edges so that they are not sharp or likely to splinter.

Paint the top in a color of your choice after undercoating or even just stain or varnish the sanded surface.

Finish the painted surfaces with several coats of a good clear coat after they cure.

Carefully, correctly position the existing mounting using existing screws if not too long.   I would do this by fitting the short leg (table in bed position) with the mounting fitted.  Use a pencil to trace the mounting on the bottom of the table top when held in position.

You might even like to use this method to make a cheap template (even from thick cardboard) before cutting into a piece of marine ply.

Of course you can cut down the existing top but unless you are a competent woodworker it'll look a bit crappy.  I wouldn't go that way.

HI
Go to a Laminate bench top maker and give him the sizes . Have a Jayco Flamingo with a fold down table and the top was MDF16mm . Very weak and distorted and to small/narrow . Went for 19mm in ply with the closest match laminate . Cost 90$ Screwed brackets and hinges done ..
