TV Mount & Travelling

Just purchased a 19" TV. It weighs 2.3kg. I have a flat panel TV mount suitable for mounting the TV. Just visited a Jayco yard to see how the mounts are installed. They have a double thickness of wall panel. I'm planning to use a bit of metal plate for re-inforcing. My mount is flat, not on an arm. The mount can tilt and swivel but it can be locked via a few Allen screws. I note that the Jayco arm can lock. Do people leave their TV in the arm when travelling?

My Jayco Silverline has a sticker on each tv mount saying Do NOT leave tv on mount when traveling!

That is good enough for me, it takes 5 seconds to remove both tv's and lay them on the bed.

I never have to worry while driving if they have broken.

We have a 19" TV in our Merc. Sprinter Campervan  attached to a timber cupboard wall on a double swivel arm  (watch TV in lounge/ bed or front swivel seats)  which when folded back is held in by a very strong magnet for travelling.  50,000km & still all OK.

Just found an item in another forum. Would appear that if the mount is solid and doesn't move travelling (mine won't - I hope) the limitation is the TV. Can it stand the shaking / vibration? A built-in CD player does fail apparently (mechanical) but a modern TV survives. I'd have thought a TV was more robust that a Microwave (the magnetron). Someone wondered if the screen hanging vertically was a better option than lying horizontal on the bed (glass is always carried vertically).

I'm putting a 2mm of aluminium plate either side the the 22mm wardrobe wall. Mount will nut & bolts plus Loctite (or nyloc nuts).

Wonder if the Jayco instructions relate to the mount, the TV or both?

My TV remains in the folding arm held back in place with a bungee cord and two pieces of foam under the bottom corners. The foam was in the box that the TV came out of.

We take ours off the wall, 2 minutes work.

It travels in its original box.

We put it back on the wall, 2 minutes work.

Pretty simple really.smilesmile

Gee ya slow DD. I only take one minute. I must have better things to do than set up the TV. My 22" TV lives on the bed while mobile.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Gday...

Ditto me ... I reckon the original packaging must be the best place for it when travelling ... it made its way all the way from a factory in China, by truck, ship, plane, truck, and many people (mis)handling it along the way.

My TV is now over 10 years old, still performs perfectly - why would anyone want it bouncing around on the wall in a van - motorhome praps might be a bit more comfortable environment for it ... but not a van.

Cheers - John

Remove ours and lay face down on the bed. Doesn't move.
