WANTED: Fully enclosed car trailer.

We're looking at purchasing a (large) motorhome, and intend to tow a 4wd (likely a Grand Vitara) behind the bus.

We are, however, struggling to find a second-hand trailer which is actually fit for this purpose.

Most are either:

1) Too small, or ill-configured, being set up for towing go carts, small race cars, or as a travelling shop/canteen etc.

2) Those that purport to be a "car trailer" are either too short to be of much use (or too low/too narrow, OR have load-carrying capacity simply unfit for the purpose. (I don;t how someone selling a trailer with a 2000kg ATM expect it to be able to carry much of anything in the car space, when it weighs the better part of 800-100kgs unladen...)

The other issue we're running into is that many of the trailers are just too long. The bus we're looking to buy is 40' in length, or 12.2 metres (12.196 if you're picky). The maximum permissibale length of this and the towed trailer is 19 metres, meaning that the trailer cannot be more than 6.8M in total length. Many trailers that would otherwise meet the requirements (load carrying etc.) are 7M plus.

So, if anyone knows someone selling an enclosed, lockable trailer with the following specs. please put them on to me.

1) Fully-enclosed.

2) Tandem axle.

3) 3500ATM (or better)

4) electric braking.

5) break away etc.

6) with ramps (or better, have the rear door fold down to become a ramp).

7) Properly wired for lighting. Power would be a bonus.

8) Side opening doors, in a location where an actual car door would open (to make vehicular access/egress easier).

9) 6.8M in length of less (but preferably ~5m internal length, 2.4-2.5M width and decent internal height - 1.8M or better).

We'd prefer fully enclosed, not only to protect the towed vehicle, but also to allow us to carry some spares and tools etc. securely in the trailer as well.

I hope someone can help.

You would most probably get exactly what you want by having one manufactured to you specs - I just typed in Aüstralian Trailer manufacturers in search engine www.mariotrailers.com.au/about-mario-trailers looked like a good one

TBH, we'd look at having one built from scratch only as a last resort, given it would cost ~twice what a second-hand trailer would.

If you can find an open trailer that suits your needs, enclosing it is a fairly simple job and would enable most of the wish list to be incorporated at the same time.
Where are you located?
Cheers,
Peter

Just my two bobs worth but I would have one built to suit what you need

Converting an open trailer to enclosed I feel is a poor starting point, if the base is to flexible your only asking for problems, get something that's designed properly

I am currently building another fully enclosed trailer to transport my vehicle inside but its more like a Caravan with room for a car inside, mine is 8050mm internal X 2440 Wide, a lot bigger than what you need but its built for a purpose

I guess height is not an issue for you but our vehicles are low and not easy to load, mine has 100mm drop axles with an internal beaver tail built into the trailer to help load the car, rear door folds down to become a loading ramp with 1200mm folding extension ramps on that

Build what you need and you wont have any issues, just make a list of EVERYTHING you want in the trailer and design from there
