My system was working okay but the dish blew over and problems started. When setting up the finder will lock on and show 70% strength but after a few seconds it drops to nothing. I start again and the same thing will happen multiple times.
The dish now has a very slight twist in it , I have tried another lnb but no difference, is the dish that critical or what else might it be?

Check the LNB arm , it may be loose or bent. The wing nuts on the adjustment may be loose and letting the dish move of the setting.
I have the VAST Satking, and the satellite finder is fixed onto the satellite, required for the system, it does not pick up other satellites
If you only have a generic satellite finder, like others have already said, you may be picking up the wrong satellite
As easy way to find out is to borrow (you say it is not the LNB), a dedicated satellite finder, and perhaps bend the LNB arm, back to focus, (if that is possible)
Also as others have already said, if you pick up 70% signal, and then keep losing it, look for any play in the arm/support legs/dish
Can you let us all know what the problem was, after it is sorted, as it may help others in the future
I had a very similar problem, the previous occasions when tuning the dish gave me good reception and all HD Channels. Last time I tuned I could get reliable SD channel reception but HD channels mysteriously dropped in and out - it happened for a few days and when looking for faults I found my RG6 extension Cable was faulty on one of the connectors. Replaced the cable and no more problems.
