I know this has been just about done to death but from my observations I think many people are still overweight and sticking their heads in the sand. I took the D40 to pedders to get an assessment on the condition of the suspension and a load and tow test. To my surprise the vehicle would be over GVM by 120kgs if loaded per the scenario. That is, maximum TB download 180kg, modest 250kg in tray and myself and the bride. Full tank, tow bar and factory nudge bar. So I don't know how those with steel front bars long range tanks, canopies and dual batteries manage to stay legal. I can get a SSM upgrade to 3070 GVM which will take care if it. The suspension needed doing anyway so will go with that to stay legal.
I think a lot of people get trapped the same way. It is often forgotten that everything that you place on or in the vehicle comes out of the payload figure and by the time a bundle of accessories are added and the passengers there is little left for anything else.

Hi Stretch60
Do you realize that even the suspension upgrade will add more weight to the Navara in parts, springs are heavier, shock absorbers heavier and it goes on.
I went to the local transfer dump the other day, our Navara come out at 2.7 tonnes, yes thats right 2.7 tonnes GVW.
Suspenion set up, bull bar, long range tank, draw system, canopy, lights, 2 way. 2nd battery system and this was with full tank of fuel 138 litres and my wife.
Things are looking pretty grim when I drop the caravans 270 kg towball weight on and that will leave me 45 kg of payload. This is why not long back I said the canopy is the next thing to dissappear from our twin cab ute along with the draw system. Our V6 Navara has a 3030 GVM with 6030 GCM.
Our D22 Navara runs at 2700Kg in travelling trim with two people and van hitched with a ball weight of 240 Kg. GVM is 2920 Kg. This is with bull bar a full tank and 60 Lts of extra water and we have a canopy but no drawers. A set of drawers can run from 75 Kg up to 100 Kg.

Yeah well I solved the problem, it was time to move the brides Mazda 3 on and having just retired, I decided $3500 to upgrade the Nav was pointless.
Soooooo.........
Bought a new amarok v6.

Don't forget to have the suspension upgraded to tow with from the start, it will be a great bonus having the extra comfort of a suspension to carry the towball weight regularly.
