Free camp on corner of Great Northern & Victoria Highway (****burn Rest Area). Other good ones we stayed earlier this year are Mary Pool, Great Northern Highway, Mueller Ranges, The Lake, Ellendale (Mount Hardman). It's on the Northern Side of the highway and the entry is not obvious but it was probably the best place we stayed (2 nights) in our 10,000kms trip around the west. The West has great free camps with more and more have long-drops and dump points which means no more loo paper (white roses) strewn everywhere. Although there are also bins, the birds seem to get in and throw stuff about. There were several others that we just brilliant. If you think mining is big in the North-West, just look at what Grey Nomads, Europeans flying into Perth & out of Darwin (or vice versa) and Back Packers bring in. Back Packers spend ever bit of money they earn.
We stayed at Coral Bay (paid) whilst the couple we travelled with went on to 14 Mile Beach (Waroora Station?). That was the best fishing they had on their entire trip (other than a paid trip out of Broome).
NT national parks charge $3.30 per head, We stayed at several including Big Horse Creek on the Victoria River and Devils Marbles (a day or two south of Katherine).
