For $10 a month we find Netflix fills the gap when there is nothing else to watch. Netflix uses about 1GB per hour watching standard definition video,
This could become a problem if you have limited data on you internet plan

In part you download stuff off Netflix when you have access to Free WiFi. Park outside Maccas for an hour and download stuff. Now lots of Van parks these days have WiFi too. Some towns too have free WiFi in certain areas.

I also reckon we should share hard drive stuff with other Grey Nomads. A modern take on the swapping  a book in the laundry at Van parks.

My hard drive has hundreds of legally acquired movies and TV series. EG all of David Jason's Frost TV series. I have always copied any DVD I bought onto my hard drives. A lot of modern DVD's have a code to enable you to legally download to a hard drive for your own viewing.

We have had Netflix for two years now and although we are on the road for the great majority of our time we find it much better than TV.
Their appears to be a great variety of shows, movies and series.

What we have found is that many on the road have Netflix and we swap recommendations with others as we travel. If you are home then friends and neighbours may be helpful with recommendations. There is also a few Facebook forums which at times will give some good hints about the content.

Our subscription is approx $12 per month and if divided by two is pretty cheap. <$2 per week.
Our plan can accomodate up to five people from memory. We had it that way to accomodate for grandies if they were to travel with us.

We have the ability to stream any show through a Chromecast device to any of our TV sets but only do this on rare occasions. Generally we watch our seperate shows on our respective iPads with earphones so one does not disturb the other, This is handy for late night or early morning watching when in the caravan.

We are with the telco Boost on both our phones and we generally run with the $30 or $40 plan which will give us more data than we need. We can also access each others data so we can share the use between the two devices and we can take advantage of unused data rollover. If you become a heavy watcher you could raise you data plan accordingly.

It is a lot more data friendly to watch this way that to stream to the Chromecast as this uses our wifi data at a much higher rate.
For example say a two hour movie through Chromecast and wifi will use about 3 gig but with Boost and bluetooth to our iPads will only use about 2 gig and many times even less. Unless you feel the need to watch in high definition then it will be cheaper to use the standard definition setting in Netflix.

If you are only using it at home then with NBN you will have the opportunity to select an unlimited broadband plan from any of the telcos.
If you are using a mobile data device or a phone then a lot of plans will include unused data rollover.

To some other members on this forum....

I HAVE NOT MENTIONED THE NAME OF MY TELCO TO START ANOTHER FORUM WAR AS TO WHICH IS THE BEST SUPPLIER, it is purely an example as to how MY Netflix works.

I hope this helps you westy...

Well Dicko and Jeff Thank you ..already I am on my way to a conclusion .Yugla I do not wish to park at Maccas etc or save DVDs whatsoever .I simply like to wake up and every now and then I don,t care if the world is about to blow up ! I would like to stay in bed and be entertained by a group of overpaid actors doing what they do best ! Lets face it ,it seems that for @ $2 a day I can be entertained ...so in my world a Pot of beer is $ 4 ..that means that I can have a great days viewing for half a beer. I intend to get a $ 49 unlimited GB deal so all sounds good so again thank you .Cheers

Hi westy,

Give it a run but if you don't like the deal then don't go with it next month.....to easy mate and you will then afford to get yourself another beer.

You will be extremely lucky to get a movie downloaded at Mackas or most van parks due to data limitations but I will be corrected if this is not the case.

Apart from your normal provider, if you are with the Big T then you may get a download from Telstra Air if you are happy to sit next to their street transmitter but really it is just as easy to use your contracted supplier.

On Netflix with a normal connection you may download several programs when you have a good connection and then view them when you are in an area with no reception so it is great for when you have no reception for internet.

There are a couple of other view providers...Stan is another one connected to a different network, it may be good but I can not comment because I have never tried it.

Good luck with a selection of much better viewing than terrestrial FTA TV.
