Hi everyone,

 

I find it a little frustrating that often the "Topic Heading" does not make it very clear in a simplified way what the subject is going to be about. Often the Topic is only one or just a few words that mean nothing on their own.  May I draw your attention to the "Rules for the forum"

 

Titles of topics Try to give each new topic a name that gives readers an idea of what it is about.  This not only helps people to determine whether the topic interests them, it also is important if someone wants to search information that has been posted on a particular topic later on.

Totally agree. I don't bother with some posts, because I dont know what they are about.
Lots of headings are too cryptic.

Many other forums will have a moderator change the title if posted as cryptic so as to ensure a result when the search function is used.

It can make the forum a much better resource for information when info can be found easily.

This forum in my opinion is more social most of the time than actually providing easily found links to enquires.
Many other forums also combine topics if they are on the same subject.

I think as long as we dont expect to much of a result from the search function it is fine to read posts of enquires on similar subject on here.

Welcome to the forum TheNotSoGreyNomad - I can't say that the titles of posts have ever really bugged me that much but the rule that you are quoting appears to be more a guideline rather than an actual rule as it says "Try to" not "you must". I find that it's usually only a relatively small number of people who make the effort to start topics so I'm not going to be too critical of someone for not being clear enough in their title.. Anyhow when I single click on the topic it gives me more detail of the post without even having to leave the title page.

Sorry I forgot to say that if someone opts not to open a topic that I posted because it was too cryptic then I guess I will just have to live with it......

Hi again.....

 

Thanks for all of the input and I'm glad I'm not alone in my thinking but I can also see that I am being somewhat trivial - See what I did there . . . too early for me (newbie) to start upsetting anyone . . . and it's not in my nature anyway smile

 

As you can see I'm new to this whole 'caravanning thing'.  It (caravanning) is great and I have been scanning the different forums to learn as much as I can from those with a wealth of experience and knowledge to 'flatten' out this steep learning curve I'm on (not that we ever stop learning).  I guess my frustration of the limited information in the subject title is because where I live it is on the edge of decent internet service so it take a little time to see what I have 'clicked' on only to find it wasn't of interest to me.

 

I will try to be more patient in the future and look forward to reading your posts on other issues.

I think that we all agree, that the topic heading, would assist in a search
Unfortunately it is, what it is

I find this forum very friendly, with plenty of different characters/knowledgeable ability/writing ability/etc

The best way to get information, (if you do not have good internet/bandwidth)

Is (in my opinion, so I could be wrong) to say up front, that you do not have good internet/bandwidth, and then ask your question
Perhaps some of us, who are just waiting around, before we get the wheels turning again, would do a search for you

Yes it is better to have an information overload so all knows what the subject is all about.

I may be guility at times of not doing so.

Also, someone may be telling us about a great campsite at say Morven.

Well it would be much appreciated if they said that the free campsite is at township Morven east of Charleville on the warrego highway in western Queensland. 

On many occasions I end up having to google to find out where the nominated camp site is.

To much info is better than not enough.
