Has anyone noticed that in advertisements on TV & in papers, old people like most of us are dressed in white to match our hair color.

Apparently it's best practice to dress in white attire so that when you ''snuff it'' you get through the pearly gates faster. Dress code says no black attire allowed apparently.

In that case to match my hair I should go nude - not really a pretty sight.

Once they start to tax per kilometer traveled instead of exercise tax at the fuel bowser, then I think it's inevitable that it will start to restrict things somewhat.

15 years tops I give it.

Autonomous vehicles will probably have a restricting impact as well. Gawd knows how long that is before they're widely implemented. The main drawback will be people wont be able to get insurance to physically drive their own vehicles..... 30 years at the outside for that one. Unless Nomads develop into driver less per kilometer paying folk in the mid term future.

I have just completed a 10,582 Kilometre trip, in exactly 90 days

My diesel fuel bill was $2,047.16 with a (larger than average) fuel use of 7.7 Kilometres to the litre
I was in strong head winds travelling east on the Nullabor, and also travelling a little faster than normal

My (everything else cost) was $4,916.50

Total cost for 90 days was 6,963.66 which was $77.37 per day

I believe that if we tell a local town, that each traveller will spend an average of $100 per day, in their town, they will be dissapointed

In my honest opinion, it would be much better to say

An old age pensioner (Grey Nomad type) traveller, spends their pension money somewhere, and other (cashed up) travellers may spend more, in your town, if you offer them a no frill/free/donation/low cost camp

I agree with ya post and in some way the figures you have quoted Tony.

$770 per week is about twice my annual income - so the absolute best I could spend every week, without draining savings, would be $400.

Obviously, the majority of that $400 per week would go on a range of things that would not be spent in a 'local town' - eg insurances etc.

Your $77 per day is closer to my TOTAL annual spend - and travelling full time, again that would not all be spent in the 'local town'.

There must be some well-heeled members in CMCA who have annual DISPOSABLE incomes of more than $50,000 to afford to travel, spend $770 each week AND maintain their main residence - assuming they are not full time travellers.

Cheers - overall it don't matter ... coz I enjoy my lifestyle far more than being in east coast cities at tourist places - John

I should have mentioned, that I knew deep down, that I do not spend $100 a day when on the road, but really had no proof

I was very particular to write down, all my cost, including all the (small $5) donations, at the donation camps

I shall not do this exercise again, as I will probably send the boss around the twist

Perhaps as John (Rockylizard), has pointed out above
The CMCA travellers well may have a large disposable income, and do spend more than $100 each and every day
If so then good on em, if they are spending it in the struggling rural towns

Just read the article. You can take the $770 with a grain of salt. No reference to source, no indication of definitions used, no way to start comparing an individual's expenditure vs group average. If they used this stat to convince govt of a point, they would be laughed at, long and loud.

I dont think the nomads spend a lot in struggling towns ,most of the cash goes into groceries thats in big supermarkets not the small ones in little towns there for the basic stuff,fuel is bought on the road travelling looking for the best price you can find,money is spent in small towns but only on necessities better than nothing I suppose...
