Android phone GPS to Apple Ipad

Hi All,

I have an Apple Ipad wifi only tablet and a Motorola Android phone with built in GPS. I was led to believe I could get the phone to connect to the I pad via WiFi or Bluetooth. This should in theory  show my location on Hema 4x4 maps and or topo maps.

Unfortunately I havent had any success with any server or client software. Somewhere I read that Apple would not allow any GPS data transfer from Android. There are a couple of after market devices on sale  for about $150 which have a good reputation. I would like to know if anyone has had success with this?

Thanks in advance

Steve in Newcaastle

You would need to turn on hotspot on phone and enable mobile data, then connect the iPad via wifi to the phone.

I turned off mobile data on our iPad. I have Hema 4x4 maps on our iPad and it showed the correct location.

Our iPad does have a sim card for mobile data so I am not sure if it will be any different to a WiFi only iPad

I turn on Hotspot on my Android, it was running 7.something now 8.1 on a Moto G5S plus. My 2009 Mac mini connects without any problems. I can also surf the net via Bluetooth as well, just a bit slower. Changed the from 2.4 to 5.0 Ghz, the Mac is running 10.6.8. Gave up the landline, NBN co technology is slower than my prehistoric Mac via the mobile phone!

Any thing wrong with your switchboard, I can fix it. Done plenty in my previous life.

it makes a huge difference.... the wifi only model does NOT have the GPS chip in it. Only the cell/wifi models have it.

Gotcha griffo1962, that's why it still works.
You could get a bluetooth GPS and plug that into the iPad
