Transmission lock up.

Anyone running a 200 series with a transmission lock up fitted ?.

Does it help as much as folk say it does ?

Ian hi, we have a Richards Electrical torque converter lock up kit and I believe it is a worthwhile investment by simply reducing transmission temps when towing.
From what I hear high temps mean faster oil degradation and earlier wear.
I'm no expert just personal experience with a Scangauge showing me the temp drop when engaged and transmission holding selected gear in Sport Mode much longer.

My tip is to have fitted by authorized Richards installer for trouble free experience.

Getting Richards in Murray Bridge to fit the lockup kit in my Prado in March 2019. Have also ordered an additional trans cooler as a backup which will be self installed within the next few weeks.

Maybe I'm a bit cynical, but sounds like advertising?

Wholesale Automatics also make them. They have them for a few other Toyota and Mitsubishi  vehicles -  Torque Converter Lockup Control System

I had the Richards unit fitted to my 200 when i was over in SA, having towed a 3500 van across from WA. The return trip with the lock up kit showed an increase in fuel economy, despite more headwinds. Also lower trans temps, as soon as the it locks up (80kmh+) the temp drops immediately. Not advertising, just happy with the product. I think they all do the same thing regardless of brand.

 Hi IanC2

I have a Richards kit in my 200 and it probably the best mod I have do e

Fuel economy does improve and as mentioned above and the trans temp remains quite stable.

I have a scanguage 2 for monitoring.

If you are concerned about spending the money have a watch of this video.

It does go into fitting it if you feel you want to go that way but I had mine fitted and it didnt break the bank.

The people in Murray Bridge are excellent to deal with and people may choose to be cynical but I would imagine they have not got a clue.

Anyway mate, watch the video.....

 Hi smile

I am always cynical too, but people do ask for specific advice and if people give actual personal results, that seems OK to me then, to name the good business.

If it looks like a seller advertising then call them out, I say.hmm

Did all my research & the Richards kits are used by many who are impressed with the outcomes, including 2 fellow caravanners I know. Nothing to advertise, just going with what is tried & tested.

Here is the video of the Richards Auto Electrical lock up kit which convinced me to spend the money to transform my 200 series LandCruiser GX into a pleasure to drive towing beast. Caravan is 3 tonne plus semi off road.

I have no pecuniary interest in Richards Auto Electrical and I am pleased to be able to share on this forum a beneficial product which has not disappointed and delivers all that is promised.
