During this speech in Berlin, a balloon popped loudly near him'

He should have been possum RR was a professional actor who was very good at memorising his speech writers lines then delivering them with the required demeanour. I agree Goldie It is amazing just how calm he managed to stay on hearing what sounded like a gunshot coming from the crowd if it was me I would have hit the deck. Too bad the guy currently in the job doesn't have anything like the communication skills that Regan had - even if he does think otherwise..no

I remember shortly before RR was inaugurated as President he was asked about the then Iranian hostage crisis where many US staff were being held captive in Iran. He was asked what he would do if they weren't released upon his entering office. His reply was that if anything happened to the hostages or they weren't released he would turn Iran into the World's biggest carpark.

It was only a short time later they were all released, unharmed. He had the same effect on the then Soviet Union. He was nobody's fool.
