2018 Isuzu D-max USB problem

G'Day All,

I have a 08/2018 Isuzu D-max LS.

I have a USB with 1500 songs/music on it which we use when there is no radio reception, however it only plats 255 songs/music. I have checked the USB and they are not in folders. I have tried to read the instruction manual (which would drive a person insane) and there is nothing in there about it.

Has anybody have the same problem or knows how to fix it.

Thanks.

Ken.

I think it has something to do with the format of the music. Some formats are not supported by the stereo so wont play.

I noticed you have been a member for some time now but this thread is your first time on so welcome to the gang Ken, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I had the same problem with the sound system in the aluminium teepee and discovered it was to do with music overload. Too many songs for the system to handle. A memory thing obviously.

I have since lost the USB stick, more than likely during a culling session a while back.

OH! Thanks for putting your question in the right section of the forum, so many ask in the 'general' section that clearly are of the technical variety and should be in here.

I must be grumpy today

Hi Ken,

Not just the Isuzu, my 200 series LC did the same on random play, only played 230 out of 480 songs on a USB stick, so I deleted the lot on the desktop computer at home and transferred them again.
Then there were two folders, one marked recycle bin and another folder, but it still only played about half, so I formatted the USB again and reloaded the songs.
Then I played the songs starting from number 1 and it went all the way through to 480 over time, good to hear some songs for the first time. Tried in the van and the missus's car, all good.

Not sure what I did different, but it didn't like random play for some reason.

Cheers Bob

Thanks mate. I have done that, however I will try it again. Might take a run down to the Isuzu dealer to see what they know. I enquired about putting a new radio in (Alpine) but I'm looking around $1000.00 fitted. Might just sing to myself it will be cheaper.

HI ken, I had a similar problem when I tried to play music that I had copied onto a USB drive in both my 2018 Jeep and my wifes 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse X. The solution was to do the following when setting up your USB -

1) Create a new folder in your USB and name it using the artists name 2) open that new folder and create a subfolder name after the album 3) open the music on your computer 4) drag the songs from your computer into  the album subfolder on the USB.

The second step means that you can have multiple albums from the same artist.

What you should see come up on the display in your car (after you select the correct USB drive that you put your stick in) is a list of artists in alphabetical order, when you select the artist you will get a list of their albums, select the album and you will get the list of tracks select the first track and the album will play through......

This works perfectly on both the Jeep and the Mitsubishi we have 50 or 60 albums on each of our USB drivesand there is plenty of room left for more. On the Jeep (not the Mitsi) some of the albums will show the album cover on the screen along with the artists name, song title etc. especially if you buy an album from Itunes.  Sometimes you can even get the album covers for the ones that you copy onto your computer from your own CD library just open  "find artwork" in the menu and do a search - I'm talking about apple computers here I really have no idea what windows machines will do.

Cheers

BB

I had a similar problem and it was limitations with the head unit. The only options at that stage were play in order (no random) and it kept starting from song 1 so that was crap. Have lots of sticks with 255 songs on each or update the head unit. I now have all my songs on my phone (over 30000) and play to my car stereo via bluetooth. Use a decent (free) music app ( I use Pi music app) and you can pretty much do what you like.

Thanks gent's Been a bit hot today to try anything however I will try your suggestions tomorrow. I spoke to Isuzu today and they think that it might be a capacity problem. Will let you know how I go. Ken.

I find it odd that it would be a capacity problem as the music is on the flash drive and the system should only be reading whats on it. Anyhow Im not going to argue with the experts if thats what Isuzu are saying then they should know. My brother in law just bought a 2018 Isuzu 2 months ago and as we are both taking our vans up to Karuah for a few days next week I will put my flash drive in his car and see what hapenns - Ill let you know if it works the same as it does in both the Jeep and the Mitsi.

Cheers

As I said last week I would try my flash drive in my brother in laws 2018 Dmax because it works fine in both the Jeep and the Mitsubishi. Although it would read and play all of the albums on the drive it wouldn't display the top level folder which happened to be all the artists names it only displayed the sub folder that contained the name of the album, then when selected the song titles came up - made it a bit hard to select an artist when the name of the album was greatest hits.  I have to say that the infotainment system in the Dmax looks to be fairly  basic when compared to some of the other vehicles that I have owned in the last 5 years like the Jeep GC, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Pajero Sport and Kia Sorento, the other people we travelled with had a 2014 Dmax which had a CD player but we weren't able to find any USB port so I couldn't try the flash drive in it.

My advice would be to stick with your bluetooth if it's working for you.

Cheers
