Travelbug Teardrop Campers

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking 1st hand experience information for camping Aus with a Travelbug Escape Pod Emerald camper.

I'm a solo camper and they look like they would fit my requirements very well, so any owners with good or bad comments

will be much appreciated.

Thank you.

I just did a trip from Qld, through NSW, SA & Vic. I saw a lot of people using roof top tents & swags. I reckon a tear drop would be better than those two options. The bed & kitchen is accessible instantly. Cheers Pete

We have a Riptide Tsunami (made on thr Gold Coast) and use an ARB awning tent for longer stays. It's pretty much self-contained. The Tsunami is the biggest teardrop on the market but plenty of people use smaller ones for long term travel. Our longest trip so far covered 12000km and 14 weeks. If you are on Facebook, there are a number of Teardrop groups based in Oz.

Thanks for your reply's. I like Travel-bugs Teardrop Escape Pod model. its well priced compared to others I think, perhaps needs a wee beefing up in the suspension for long distance travel and added weight?

The pricing is a lot cheaper than the equivalent Riptide (the Breeze) but it falls a long way short in features (they may not interest you of course). When we were looking, upgraded suspension wasn't a Travelbug option and we were after something to handle corregations. The travelbug doesn't appear to have water storage and sink plus the galley needs extras so look at that. I definitely recommend both full 12v DC and 240v AC systems. Water and power extend your possibilities. I haven't done a like with like comparison of the current offerings.

jade46. That's a Gidget, now only available second hand. Company went bust and left more than a few unhappy customers. Good product by all standards but poor management.

Consider the Chevronrv guppy.

When thinking about a teardrop think about getting dressed lying down, ease of entry and exit and cooking with little protection from the elements.
The Guppy tackles those questions well.

Is the Chevron RV Guppy still in production. Googlw search showed a you tube clip circa 2012 and nothing else. Looks great and tough.

Chevron RV website isn't functioning so my guess is they have folded. Various YouTube vids shows nothing my Riptide doesn't offer too, as most TD can easily have canvas fitted to expand space and head-height.
