Went to start motorhome (Toyota Coaster) ominous clicking sound no start, out with the battery charger, hooked up to one of the two vehicle batteries, they are connected to each other, charger reads FULL, green light says 100% charged, all 7 charging stages completed, turned the key, waited for the glow plugs etc, still will not start. Before I get the auto alectrician in, should I have put the charger on both batteries? I have assumed because they are connected, if I connect the charger to one, it will charge both.

How old are the batteries? Any corrosion on the terminals? All contacts screwed together tightly? Earth lead has good electrical connection? Just checking the basics have been looked at first!

if its like my coaster it will be 24v start system, charge one battery at a time but better to disconnect the joing cable. They will hook up positive then neg of that battery will go to the positive of second battery and the neg of the second battery to earth. You may well find one battery will be dead
cheers

ps I had a sinmular problem when the outside battery faile and it would jump start with a jump to the outside battery, have now replace it
Do you have seperate motor batteries and storage batteries ? The motor batteries maybe flat or bad high resistance connection ? If the batteries are over 5 years old been flat a few times ? Chances. Are theyre past their best !! Do you have a voltage sensitive relay between motorhome and motor batteries ? They prevent starter / motor batteries going completely flat .,
Is it possible that the starter solenoid contacts are past their use by dates? In my experience it matters not how good the batteries are if the contractors are shot.
