looking for some input on how you lot secure your doors, draws/fridge during transit.
I have an older van '94 model, so not everything is new and working as it should. Albeit, I hear being new is still no guarantee
Anyway , point being i have latches similar to these ones below. slightly different but you get the point.
In addition to having one busted and not being able to find a replacement, they also have a tendency to pop open in transit on rougher roads and spill the contents over the floor.
My fridge sometimes comes open under similar circumstances and whilst it has a pin to drop in for traveling, I'd like to bomb proof my doors and draws from ever doing this again.
Looking to keep it clean and not just bungee or chuck random screws in etc.
All the outside hatch doors and all full doors and drawers in the OKA have compression latches.
All the overhead cupboards and storage boxes inside have "short doors" with sprung self closing hinges that stop the storage boxes from sliding out. An extra "secret" feature is that the runners of the large storage boxes and drawers are not flat, but slope backwards slightly meaning that when on corrugated roads, they tend to want to go in rather than come out.
These 2 pics and short video shows how the overhead cupboard storage boxes work. This system has been 100% successful now for 15 years.
Fitted some 20mmX 15mm around shelves . Fitted extra stronger spring to fridge door latchs .The side boxs on motorhome I have an extra clip on rope to prevent them opening . Velcro on TV ,sat remotes, hard drive etc .
Thanks everyone, some good options there.
I'd love just to swap the latches out for something more substantial but I don't think that would be an easy swap out and I don't want to be cutting into each door for the press type ones which I like quite a bit.
I think I'll just go with a couple of little eye screws at each end and just stretch some sort of elastic something or other across in front of them.
I might even try the small lip on the inside of each cupboard too, If the cupboard structure allows me to screw them in somehow.
Perhaps you need to have another look at the pics in the link that I posted. I can't for the life of me understand why you wouldn't just buy your choice of these. Much easier & better looking than a DIY thingo.
You'll get them at the green shed or any baby gear specialist shop. Maybe even Big W.
Cupie, I was trying to go with something more secure than just double sided tape.
I tend to put a bit of electrical gear up there , like dlsr, battery charger and portable speaker etc, so they have a bit of momentum when they start to move.
I've also had other open with less in them, so I want to consider something 'bomb proof' when it comes to keeping them shut.
It's not that I don't appreciate the idea, I do, but I've been looking into this for some months now all of the options above had already been considered.
those baby thingys were the first on the list. I looked at all types.
That said, I was hoping someone had the magic pill for me but taking the feedback on board, I realise everyone has the same ideas and I need to pick one of those outlined that I find most suitable.
Still haven't made up my mind yet. Maybe, I'll do them all
Whitworth Marine have your latch, not cheap, but everything I have bought over the years from them doesn't seem to be a Chinese copy. A few other latches on this page.

that's WAWT , sussed them out. They have the ones similar to what I posted the pics of but theyre not quite a match for my jayco ones. theyre a millard. someone gave me a bunch of them but they wont fit.
I do like the look of these though.
at 7 bucks I think I could manage that. Looks nice too. If the holes line up even better.
I might grab one for a test.
Thanks oldfella. I'm not confident they'd be study enough. I really need something with a very positive latch system.
My latches to work on my cupboards but the pressure on them when off road, is just more than they can handle.
I'm actually thinking some of those small eye bolt screw in thingies with a length of aluminum rod slid through them . maybe thread each end to screw a not on to stop them sliding out in transit, or drill a small hole with a small r clip in each end.
I do like the idea of a solid lip on the inside as suggest above, maybe I can combine the 2 ideas and run the aluminium rod say 4mm or something actually through the face of the cupboard so its on the inside of the doors themselves.
hmm work in progress me thinks. Still thanks for the ideas and keep em coming . I'm taking it all in
