resting up in Mosman after the Trip to the tip. 7 days at Seisia was fantastic. We have a nephew in Bamiga, so boat was not a problem. Yes, we took our Bushtracker and had no problems.
However, the road from the turn off to Captain Billys Landing to the Jardine ferry was the worst Ive seen In years. Corrugations like ocean waves. All made worse by idiots going far too fast for the conditions in vehicles with excessive loads on roof racks. One guy even had his tinnie mounted right side up on the roof rack of his Ranger complete with a 15 horse motor attached while towing a 3.5 ton van!
The trip from Seisa to the tip saw us narrowly avoid head ons with racing fools tearing through the rainforest section. Saw several 4wdrives broken and being loaded on the freighter to Cairns. Too fast too hard. Mechanic in Bamiga charges $160 an hour so repairs are costly if you need them.
The trip back was more of the same, highlighted both ways by stops at the Telegraph station which is a really pleasant oasis with great camp sites where you can have a fire and enjoy some fishing. The road from Telegraph to Musgrave Station had deteriorated since our trip up the week before. Saw a burned out alum boat, trailer and motor. The owner would not be a happy camper. Items picked up off the road included a complete Toyota tow bar tongue with tow ball, a shift spanner, a small esky complete with six cans of VB and various straps, tie downs and Ocky straps.
We turned off at Musgrave and went through Lakefield National Park to Cooktown. The roads were in fantastic condition and it was a joy to drive through this beautiful area.
4 days in Mosman to spit the dust out. It is a great little town just up the road from Port Douglas tourist trap. Daintree we saw more goons ripping through the bush as though nobody else is coming the other way. I think it is all the people with kids on holidays making the mad dash there and back.
Down the track through Cairns tomorrow, not sure where we will be tomorrow night but it is great to not be on a schedule.
