Hi Murray....there will be many replies to your question, but the  generally accepted  ball weight is 10% of ATM,which on your case would be 160kg.What is the car? Cheers

Murray....what year is your Kia? Some of those little buses have a GVM (weight on wheels of car) of 2100kg and tow capacity of 1600kg.The GCM (Gross combination mass,or total weight on wheels of car and van) is 3600kg. I havent yet found max towball weight allowed, but 160kg towball weight will put 210-240kg extra weight onto your cars rear axle. With 1560kg tare,60kg fuel,160kg towball weight you are only 320kg  away from your 2100kg GVM......no passengers,no tools,no luggage etc.I agree that it would be wise to send a note to Santa! Please let us know what vehicle you are considering.Cheers

P.S I live in Brisbane and I am happy to help if needed.

Hi, Santa asked me to check out a Triton dual cab deisel auto today, and l'm impressed with Santa's choice. Plenty of power, room and margin for weight capacity. I'm interested in any of your thoughts.cheers muz

Hi Murray...stay well away! Waaay too much TBO (towball overhang,or distance from rear axle to hitch point). Bit busy at moment, but Google Bent chassis Triton and you will spend hours looking at Tritons bent like bananas. Triton??? Never. Ranger,Colorado or DMax are streets ahead.Cheers

plenty of other models with bent chassis, if you abuse any thing long enough and hard enough, it will bend. There is nothing wrong with the triton any more than any dual cabs, by the very nature of rear wheel placement in relation to load area they all look very bendy if abused

Hi Robert...I did not say that other models would not bend.I simply warned the OP that Tritons are well known for suffering from bent chassis, with many more bent than other models. As you say,any model will bend if abused, but the Triton will bend well before other models will bend.I simply am trying to pre-warn the OP before he makes a BIG mistake and it all ends in tears.Stay away.Cheers

Triton has a smaller wheelbase than others, and more overhang.

Your opinion might have some merit if you stated it was your opinion and not a stated or engineered outcome for triton, I have seen plenty of tritons doing the job. I will add that I don't own a triton but ATM have a Suzuki Vitara and a coaster. When I buy tow vehicles I prefer land rovers, but is just a personnel opinion cause there are plenty that would and do disagree with me
cheers

Hi Robert... Your convoluted reply could confuse others,so I would like to point out that only three lines of the last post are actually my words.....the last two lines are those of Robert.Personnel opinion??Still no idea although what that may be,although I do have a personal opinion on many things.Cheers

Hi Muz,
Suggest you ignore the argument above. Its just the old ford, holden argument. Scare mongering. If you were going to tow 2800kg it might be relevant. But not in your case. I have a 5 yr old Triton towing 2450kg. So far all good. Your van is only 1600kg. Easy peasy.

Hi all, the boss and I have decided on a dual cab ute which should cover not only our travelling need's,but our day to day tasks at home.l will be sure to carry on with my research before making any decision,as I'm not in any hurry because I'm still completely renovating my camper trailer and it won't be completed till the end of the year. I'll be sure to post what my final decision will be. Cheers muz

Hi Murray...we look forward to hearing of your decision, but I would reiterate that the Triton is a poor choice, for reasons other than weak chassis and excessive TBO.Feel free to PM me if you wish, and good luck with your search.Cheers

Hi guys, I'm not wanting to start another war of words, but I looked at the 2019 ldv t60 dual cab deisel ute the other day, and it's a vast improvement on previous attempts that the Chinese auto makers have made to break into the Australian market. The dealership nextdoor was showing dmax utes, which in my opinion (not test driving yet),was poorly finished by comparison.
And I have googled bent Triton's and if they aren't Photoshopped images, then that is a worry. Apparently Mitsubishi have altered the 2019 chassis. I'm still looking, and probably won't be buying till the end of the year.
