In reality I don't think grey nomads are any better or worse than anyone else. Most people these days seem preoccupied with their own agenda and 'requirements' largely disregarding the impact on others, it's the evolution of a selfish society. The grumpy part also comes with age IMO, plenty of examples of it (along with rudeness), sadly even in the forum.

We saw one Nomad storm out of a hardware shop in Hay NSW because he was asked to wait 20 minutes to get his 9kg gas bottle filled.
As he stormed out he yelled at us, ''don't they f***ing know that we're on tour!''.
Sure enough in large writing on the rear of their caravan was ''BOB & JEAN ON TOUR''
They are in a hurry to get to the "finishing line".
I live in Manly, tourists all the time. Even more in summer. Parking for residents is a problem as properties were built in an era with far less cars. Luckily we were able to buy a property with a garage.

That article just strikes me as a journo scratching around for something to fill a page to be honest. The headline makes it sound like an all out war between locals and nomads, but someone grabbing the last loaf of bread off the shelf before you is not really my idea of "supermarkets becoming a battleground".
Now. the more important message that I take out of that story are the serious concerns of councillors and residents that the infrastructure of vacation towns is being overwhelmed by the influx of seasonal tourists. I agree that's something that needs addressing, but that (apparently) less interesting point kinda gets lost in amongst the jibes about "grumpy nomads".
Its just the few ruining it for the many. Mist GNs Ive encountered have been great. I have had the odd encounter with an entitled and rude GN who seems to think they are the centre of the universe and every town should be grateful that they are visiting

that is a very positive perspective but you want them to make a donation to the local economy before they move on
Well I have to put my hand up to say that I'm probably a prime candidate for having a seat on that show Grumpy Old Men, but when I am dealing with others I do try hard to treat them how I would like to be treated.
In most instances that approach works well but on the odd occasion we do get faced with a mentally challenged individual who doesn't really grasp that concept.
On those rare occasions I have had to express my displeasure with a few well chosen words. Not a preferred method of dealing with people but occasionally necessary.
It doesn't refer to us. Where the crowds are we don't attend unless desperate overnight only. . No vacancies? a sure indication its too crowded or wrong time of year to tour. Don't mind me I'm grumpy today.

For me I find that story funny about Broome because it must be one of the most overrated tourist places in Australia and you would only go there when you are having a bad hair day. Also I think Mamil comment is on the money, That article just strikes me as a journo scratching around for something to fill a page.
I'm cringing! We were at Broken Hill and it was hot and as dry as a donkeys . well you know the saying. Parked up in a van park and out for the day. When we got back it was obvious that a car and van had shortcutted across our site to theirs. Our water hose was flattened and our power lead was imprinted with someone's very heavy tyre marks. Hubby went off and yes I know the others were in the wrong. But I don't like confrontation and it was a bit embarrassing. Pleased to say we didn't run into them again on that trip.
My wife was listening to the local radio station/s, which cover the Broome region
The consensus (from the radio), was that travellers/grey nomads were not polite, and grumpy old farts
Unfortunately as we are all tarred by the same brush, the few are giving us all a bad name, and we will just have to grin and bear it
I have heard the saying (in the past), that not everyone is suitable for travelling
In my opinion, Broome like some other places, is a fairly long road trip, and those who do not like travelling, are probably taking their frustrations out on others
I have been to Broome a few times, as a day tripper, as there are (to my knowledge), no free/donation/low cost camps
