I posted this earlier today but it seems to have failed. I am interested in hearing from anyone who has changed to BFG All Terain tyres from a less aggressive A/T tyer. Are they noisier on bitumen roads? Currently have Dunlops that are pretty quiet.

Hi Rowan......Although I had no trouble with noise from the KO2s that I was running, they started very early to have chunks breaking off them,so I put those tyres on the van (same wheels on car and van) and put Mickey Thompsons on the car. Do your own research and look at reviews, but they are not the tyre they once were.Cheers
I was going to go from Cooper A/T because I wasn't happy with them to BFG KO2 A/T but due to the reason above that I read a few times and also they didn't like the wet black stuff I did some research and finally decided on Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697.
They have been on since Mid May and so far I am very happy with them. I don't do serious 4X4 stuff though and have not had them in sand yet.
I run the same pressures as the Cooper and work well for my set up. I reckon they are quieter on the black stuff including some concrete roads than the Cooper as well. No problem with grip so far.
I'm a happy camper.
I have had BFG older design on a Prado many moons ago and was happy at the time.

You might like to check Toyo, which have only good reviews and General also seems to be a good tyre.As suggested,697s are worth a look, but beware offroad with their sidewalls.Tyres are perhaps like beers....everybody will have their favourite.Cheers

Just completed 13000km trip inland mostly,, SA, VIC, NSW QLD, NT and back ,,,, BFG common , no adverse comments. 697's,, been using for 9 years no problems on LC79 series towing van at about the GCM.
Lived in the NT for 25 years and had 3 4WD's travelled dirt a lot. It is interesting to note what the locals use remote ie OOdnadatta/William CK recently,, lots of BFG's.
A factor in tyre selection is often how the local tyre dealer out bush pushes tyres. For example in the NT years ago Darwin area guys swore by BFG's as they had really large operation in Darwin, but lots of Yokohama Super Diggers (now Geolander I think).
Bridgestones were most common in Katherine area and SW of Katherine,,, and Alice had a more general mix ie Toyo BFG etc through independent dealers I think/
All have plus and minus and are good tyre these days,,, just choose by primary role IMHO

On the recommendation of my nephew who's family company runs a fleet of D Max's in the outback, I fitted Hankook Dynapro A/T's They are quite frankly the best kept secret in tyres I have tried. Good wet and dry, good off road, wear really well, don't have issues on stoney country and about $100 less per tyre than BFG's
Bob Jane often have a deal of pay for 3 get 4th free. I bought 5 for just over $1100 on that deal.
I have now completed about 35000ks on them, mostly with the van on the back and the way they are wearing they should go 70,000ks at least.

I have only ever heard good feedback about these,,,, no practical experience though

Obviously, there are more than one tyre brand offering good performance and wear life.
I have been recommended to buy GoodYear Wrangler A/T by a tradesman who drives a Triton 4WD with aluminium boxes full of tools and equipment, racks often loaded and at times items such as bags of cement in between the boxes.
Its not just the brand either . You can get a good tyre from a cheaper less known company these days . Only issue buying tyres too budget ? Is your stuck with them for at least two years .
For example, after my caravan LT original equipment tyre, one of two, suffered a blowout in the NT I stopped at Mt.Isa for a replacement and ended up buying two GT LT tyres (General Tyres), albeit reluctantly, but was assured by the tyre firm that GT are a quality brand tyre.
So far so good.
I don't believe that there is a superior tyre, there are many good tyres, but of course there are some rubbish tyres.
Years ago I had an original Pajero tyre blowout in the NT, Yokohama Geolander HT. And then a second punctured. A Yokohama tyre dealer in Darwin sold me two brand new replacement HT tyres and ne suffered a blowout returning south and was replaced at Daly Waters. The dealer recommended replacement of the two rear Geolanders (original tyres) with Bridgestone Dueler AT and explained that road conditions in the NT are too hard on HT tyres and that most Territorians replace original HT with AT when they buy a new vehicle.

I stopped using Yokohama Super Digger (predecessor to Geolander) as about 50% went out of round before 50% worn,,, even spare on back went out of round,,,, looked like sun exposure in Darwin area.
