Yeah I know that old adage about 'you get what you pay for' but I reckon some cheap things are just as good as the more expensive options. Accordingly I don't want recommendations for Safety Dave, ABR, Tyredogs etc....no matter how good it's been for you and how many tyres and $s it has saved.
On ebay there are heaps of 6 external sensor TPMS units for a bit under $150.
Someone must have ventured down the path of buying a cheap unit...if so please let me know how it has performed.
I was camped near a fellow traveller about twelve months ago and he had a cheap ebay 4 sensor unit that cost him about $48.00
He had the four sensors on his Caravan only and he reckoned that the unit worked spot on.
Now I know it is not the report you are after but this info may help to bump your topic to the top again.
At the time he gave me the link but I have lost it somewhere in my phone memory.
If I needed a set I would give the eBay ones a go as I find with most Chinese equipment these days that they are probably all made in two or three factories and it is the importer that needs to buy a condo at the gold coast.
Hi Moose2
The only comment I would have, is make sure batteries can be replaced in the sensors, otherwise the sensors are throw away after a couple of years, I had a system like that, have replaced it, and can change a $5.00 battery in a couple of minutes, but it is a tyredog 10 sensor unit, quite a bit more cost than what you are looking for
Regards
I have expensive TPMS so I won't comment other than to say put a bit of fluro tape (I used sail cloth repair tape) on the spanner for the locking nut so one is less likely to loose it.
A friend purchased a set of 4 sensors see below, has yet to use them on a trip but they tested out OK.
Note sure if you can link a second set into the same App or you could run 2 apps for a Tug and a Tandem Van to have 8 sensors installed.
To me the drawback could be loss of signal when the set is on a Tandem caravan, in our case we need a Radio Frequency? Amp at the rear of our Cruiser to pick up the caravan sensor signals 100% of the time. Maybe the same or a similar Amp could be used for this set for weak signals.
To me very good value, since most sensors of name brands can cost up to $60 each.
I previous changed the sensor batteries when I lost the signal ( ie one at a time) now change the lot at least one a year prior to a trip. The sensor batteries are a very reasonably priced from some ebay outlets. I run 6, 4 on the van and on the rear of the cruiser, I consider I can feel when a front wheel has a problem. I do not use the locking rings as the are a pain to use.
If installing on a motorhome, I would check to ensure the sensors can read over 60psi, as some do not.
I have noticed a few times in the outback that I suddenly get loss of signal. I think I have narrowed it down to when a car or truck goes past with TPMS their signal is interfering with mine.
My guess is if you have 8 wheels get one TPMS unit for the entire vehicle.
Last year our TPMS saved us 3 tyres, we plugged the tyres on the run. Peace of mind keeping tyres alive with as many options as possible is priceless, let alone the cost of the tyres.

Hopefully the cheap TPMS have a dust cover on the back. It is a little irritating if one is changing pressure a few times a day but it does stop dirt building up on the back of the sensor & in general less likely getting dirt in the valve.

Totally agree re peace of mind, especially if you travel off the tar, have saved a number of tyres and in one case was notified of less pressure, turned out to be a hairline cracked rim.
