One of the most important commodities in our lifestyle is the fuel to allow us to be able to mobile.
There certainly is a urgent need for action in regards to the mode of operation of all of our fuel companies.
Yesterday for instance in Brisbane Unleaded petrol was selling for around $140 today the price has escalated to over $170 per litre.
A massive 30 cents or a percentage increase of over 20%, but don't hang your hat on the idea that our Government will step in, and why should they. Because of the fuel tax that they are ripping off all of us.
Talk about price fixing. There virtually is a a uniform code that all servo follow.
Also there probably is a central monitoring system to track all fuel sold at say $1.40 versus $1.70.
The fuel in the ground tanks is the same fuel be it what ever the price of the day is.
We would be happy to see a standard price and then let the customer and the market forces dictate where we chose to shop
Years ago there was such a government body called..... P.S.A. no....not that one
This P.S.A stood for
Prices Surveillance Authority
Major companies had to provide data to the P.S.A. as to why they were seeking a price increase in there products and I think also services.
But hey!!! I am dreaming if I think things are going to change in the near to far future.
Perhaps we should all unite to only support one supplier, then that would put the cat among the pigeons.
It is a simple choice of free enterprise or government control of prices.
You want MORE government control? That comes with some other serious side effects.
Be careful what you wish for.
Cheers,
Peter
we try to support our local smaller distributor, and it appears by the vehicles in his forecourt so do many others. Sometimes it might cost 1-2 cents more if you take into account the big deal 4 cents off your Rewards Card. But at this stage they have kept our pricing down and much more stable. So no thanks BP- dearest by a mile. Caltex and Shell- almost as bad as BP. This is Albury Wodonga.
A few weeks ago I filled up in Nyngan $1.66 (98), in Sydney at the time $1.95, so I had enough to get me through to the bottom of the price cycle $1.53. Could have got $1.48 but not worth the drive.
Sydney has a 3 week cycle, Perth has a 1 week cycle. Our local independent has cheaper prices than the big companies. If you are not using a lot of fuel buy at the bottom of the cycle.
The highest on our last trip was $2.25 for Opal on the Great Central Road.

Talking of rip offs, the government is still taxing a tax. GST on fuel excise is a tax on a tax. Fuel excise is 41.6 c/l [ petrol and diesel], that adds 4.16 cents to every litre of fuel sold.
GST should on be on the price of fuel before the excise tax is applied.

A bit off topic but,
How is the government going to tax electric vehicles?
Will the owner have to report distance traveled or kilowatts used?

Years ago I heard a program on ABC Radio National. The government has been quietly testing various systems. The government will be ready to charge when the vehicle number threshold is reached. Currently there is only about 7000 electric cars in Australia & some of them are testing new systems.

Daryl, the topic is fuel prices and people being ripped off , what I posted is not off topic.

I expect that the Govt will use a system a bit like the robo debt approach.
Each demographic will be assigned an assumed Km/year & charged by the tax office on that basis.
If you believe that it is incorrect then the onus is on you to prove it.
(Should I have put this response in the Just Joking area?)

The "bit off topic" comment was regarding my post not yours.
