1. Two months ago I had a severe pain in my left thigh late one night. We thought it was a pinched nerve or could have been muscular although it felt like a severe DVT. I went to bed (we'll check in the morning) but a few hours later, had to call an ambulance as the pain was unbearable. Nothing was found in many tests over several hours.
2. Last Wednesday night, I passed a small black stool (again I thought I would check "in the morning"). You don't need to know what happened between 5 & 7.30am but from there until 9.15 when I was able to see my doctor, our runaround started. First to doctor, then ED at the Mater hospital, then the Day Surgery for an emergency gastroscopy (a bleeding stomach ulcer was found - my warfarin was stopped) then back to the Mater for 5.5 days of blood tests & observation.
I'm thankful none of these incidents happened while we were traveling as we will be in 6 weeks (I hope).
Moral of the tale - at the first hint of trouble, JUMP into action! We are not bullet proof, just weak human beings.

If you don't get it done today, there's always tomorrow!
I did something similar years ago...my husband was a truck driver and away overnight. I went to bed fine, then woke early hours with bad indigestion, I tried loads of antacids to shift it. But nothing helped. I was walking around as laying down made it worse. After a few hours I fell asleep with exhaustion.
A few days later I went to a Drs appointment and I mentioned what happened. I was sent straight away for a stress test. Which came back as something being wrong with my heart. I was sent to a Cardiologist, who got me in for an Angiogram and they found I had a heart attack, and I had 1 1/2 blocked arteries in my heart. I was put on heart medication and aspirin.
I had no idea it was that bad. I didnt have any of the symptoms suggested for a heart attack, even though I was a trained Ambulance officer.
So the lesson is...if you get really bad indigestion, go to the hospital ASAP. It might be something else
